No Jail: Judge Gives 26 Year Old School Bus Driver Probation for Rape of 14 Year Old Girl

A 26-year old Watertown, New York former school bus driver has been sentenced to 10 years probation after admitting to raping a 14-year old girl he brought to his home.
Judge James P. McClusky says the sentence he handed down to Shane M. Piche is sufficient because it’s unlikely the 26-year old man will commit the same crime again.
Piche “will be registered as a Level 1 sex offender as a result of his guilty plea to third-degree rape,” the Watertown Daily Times reports.
Judge McClusky defended his sentence, saying Piche had no prior arrests and there was “only” one victim.
Piche will have to register as a sex offender but will not appear in online databases.
WWNY adds that Piche’s attorney defended his client by saying, “this isn’t something that didn’t cause him pain and this isn’t something that didn’t have consequences.”
The victim’s mother in a statement said: “I wish Shane Piche would have received time in jail for the harm he caused to my child. He took something from my daughter she will never get back and has caused her to struggle with depression and anxiety.”
