Devos Says She’s Been Fighting for Special Olympics ‘Behind the Scenes’ After Trump Takes Credit for Reversing Cuts

Published

on

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, after vehemently defending cuts to the Special Olympics for days, found herself thrown under the bus by President Donald Trump just hours after she was raked over the coals during her second day of congressional testimony.

President Trump spoke to reporters barely hours after DeVos screamed at Senate Committee Democrats, falsely accusing them of using “disabled children in a twisted way for your political narrative.”

Reversing course the President told reporters that the “Special Olympics will be funded, I just told my people.”

“I just authorized a funding of the Special Olympics,” the President added. “I have overridden my people, we’re funding the Special Olympics.”

Secretary DeVos issued a statement suggesting she was secretly against eliminating the $17.8 million in Special Olympics funding.

“I am pleased and grateful the president and I see eye-to-eye on this issue, and that he has decided to fund our Special Olympics grant,” the Secretary said, as NBC’s Hallie Jackson reports. “This is funding I have fought for behind-the-scenes over the last several years.”

Texas Republican Blasts McCarthy Over Mask Mandate – Minority Leader’s Response: Wait Until I Become Speaker

Published

on

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) on Thursday continued his diatribe over the newly-enacted House mask mandate, berating Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who urged him to be patient enough until he becomes Speaker of the House.

“This is bulls—. We need to lead,” Congressman Roy “told McCarthy during a brief meeting of GOP lawmakers in a Capitol reception room,” Politico reports.

On Wednesday Roy gave an emotional speech demanding his colleagues “shut this place down” over the mask mandate.

“McCarthy replied to a frustrated Roy,” Politico adds, “that his plan is to win back the majority in 2022 and become speaker, the sources said. Their back-and-forth illustrates the mounting fury on the right about efforts by Capitol security officials to enforce mask-wearing rules amid the surge of Covid’s Delta variant.”

McCarthy’s plan may not be viable.

Last month Salon reported the “House Minority Leader is in a favorability freefall, especially among the GOP’s crucial MAGA bloc,” which might explain why today he was caught dogwhistling a QAnon reference at a press conference.

Trump Swears Dems Are Calling Him Begging to Negotiate on the Stimulus — but He ‘Got Everything He Wanted’ Already

Published

on

President Donald Trump side-stepped Congress to pass his own stimulus bailout with a series of executive orders. Now, however, he’s claiming Democrats are desperate to negotiate with him on the coronavirus bill.

Speaking to the press while leaving another vacation weekend in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump said Democrats are “calling him.”

“They’re much more inclined to make a deal now than two days ago,” Trump said.

It’s unclear which Democrats he spoke to, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi didn’t indicate she spoke to the president during interviews with the Sunday morning talk shows.

Trump also said that he’s been “personally” involved in negotiating the bill. In reality, it was his chief of staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. So, Trump had to correct himself, saying he was involved “personally, you know, through my representatives.”

Neither Trump nor the White House or the GOP has clarified why negotiation is needed with Democrats if Trump already fixed everything through his slate of executive orders. It seems to fly in the face of Saturday’s press conference and the slew of headlines that followed.

Trump Mocked for Cowardly Canceling Throwing Out Yankees’ Opening Pitch ‘Because of My Strong Focus on the China Virus’

Published

on

President Donald Trump this week arranged to throw out next month’s opening pitch at Yankee Stadium, just as Dr. Anthony Fauci announced he would be doing so this past week at Major League Baseball’s opening day.

But now Trump, who loves nothing more than to be the center of attention, has just canceled – claiming he’s too busy because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Not many believed him.

Trump spends a good portion of each day tweeting and watching cable news, and usually has nothing on his public schedule until around noon.

And given the White House saw fit to makes available to far right wing cable media outlet OANN, just 24 hours ago, this photo of the President golfing with Brett Favre, being too busy to go to a Yankees’ game doesn’t sound plausible, as many noted.

Here’s what some are saying:
