Breaking: Louisiana Judge Rules Same-Sex Marriage Ban Unconstitutional
A Louisiana state judge has ruled the state ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional — in disagreement with another Louisiana state judge’s ruling earlier this month.
Judge Edward Rubin of the 15th Judicial District Court in Louisiana, Lafayette Parish, has just ruled that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional, violating the 14th Amendment’s equal protection and due process clauses. The case is In Re Costanza and Brewer.
The AP reports the case was “brought by Angela Marie Costanza and Chastity Shanelle Brewer, a same-sex couple who married in California and are seeking to have their marriage recognized in Louisiana for purposes of adoption.”
Earlier this month Judge Martin Feldman became the first federal judge since the Supreme Court’s DOMA ruling to find a state ban was constitutional.
This is a developing story — stay tuned.
