Pelosi’s Democratic Critics Shrink as NY Congressman Who Signed Letter Now Says He’s Changed His Mind

And then there were 15.
One of 16 Democratic members of Congress (14 of whom are men) who signed a letter declaring opposition to voting for Leader Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House has just changed his mind.
Rep. Brian Higgins, The Washington Post reports, “said he had changed his mind after securing an ‘agreement in principle’ that Democrats would undertake a ‘serious good faith effort’ to advance legislation lowering the Medicare eligibility age to 50 as well as a trillion-dollar infrastructure blitz.”
Others who also declared opposition to Pelosi becoming Speaker have changed their minds. The only member of Congress who announced she was considering running against the Democratic Leader, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, on Tuesday turned around and endorsed Pelosi for Speaker.
Leader Pelosi still does not have, at least officially, enough votes to be elected Speaker. Some on the left have decried the opposition battle as taking up precious time before the new Congress begins in January. They say Democrats should be uniting and drawing up a gameplay, and not bickering over what is likely inevitable: Nancy Pelosi being elected Speaker once again.
Some, too, have noted that those who signed the letter opposing Pelosi did not offer any tangible reason for their opposition, other than they ran on a platform of “change.” Her abilities or experience have not been in question.
