REPORT: Donald Trump Is Under Investigation for Obstruction of Justice
‘A Major Turning Point in the Nearly Year-Old FBI Investigation’
Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating President Donald Trump for obstruction of justice. The Washington Post Wednesday evening reports Mueller “is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.”
The Post calls it “a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation.”
Recent reports have found Mueller is hiring investigators familiar with prosecuting corruption cases. “They include men and women responsible for bringing down Nixon, Enron, and the mafia,” GQ, citing an article in Politico, reports.
Furthering that focus, the Post now reports: “Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.”
Noting that they could be “directed by the White House to invoke executive privilege,” the Post adds that “Daniel Coats, the current director of national intelligence, Adm. Mike Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, and Rogers’ recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett, agreed to be interviewed by Mueller’s investigators as early as this week. The investigation has been cloaked in secrecy and it’s unclear how many others have been questioned by the FBI.”
While Trump had said James Comey assured him that he was not under investigation three times, “that changed after Comey’s firing.”
Already, the Trump administration has responded. NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell reports:
