‘Not Mentally Fit’: Trump Blasted for Telling First Responders He Was ‘Down There With You’ at Ground Zero

President Donald Trump Monday morning signed a bill into law ensuring first responders to the 9/11 attacks and their families will have greatly-needed – and, thanks to GOP lawmakers who delayed the process – long awaited financial support. But his remarks to 9/11 first responders invited to witness the signing of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund in the White House’s Rose Garden has some outraged.
“I was down there [at Ground Zero] also, but I’m not considering myself a first responder, but I was down there. I spent a lot of time down there with you,” Trump claimed. His claim is false.
Trump claims without evidence to an audience that includes 9/11 first responders: "I was down there [at Ground Zero] also, but I'm not considering myself a first responder, but I was down there. I spent a lot of time down there with you."

It’s not the first time Trump has told this lie.
“Everyone who helped clear the rubble — and I was there, and I watched, and I helped a little bit — but I want to tell you: Those people were amazing,” he said, as Mediaite reminded Monday. “Clearing the rubble. Trying to find additional lives. You didn’t know what was going to come down on all of us — and they handled it.”
Trump, as many on social media were quick to point out, called in to New Jersey radio station WWOR on the afternoon of the 9/11 terror attacks to claim – falsely – that he now owned the tallest building in downtown Manhattan. It was a lie.

@realDonaldTrump So, you were helping the 1st responders on 9/11? That is so like you–a brave man, going in there bone spurs and all. You are now beyond delusional and dementia–you are flat out a lying sack of shit who needs to be locked up for the rest of your pathetic life!

Trump was not "down there" during 9/11 with first responders, and the only role he played was bragging on TV that he now had the biggest building in NY once the towers fell. Oh and lying about how American Muslims reacted to 9/11. https://t.co/5ZMyudJG4l

He is not mentally fit. What is the point of him lying about this? His narcissism is too malignant for him to continue. Can the Republicans AT LEAST say lying about being at 9/11 is too much? This isn't Trump "fighting back against the libs" – This is sick dishonesty. https://t.co/Po1YOlN6zZ

there's a lot of awful trump phrases for a lot of reasons. but trying to claim he's akin to a 9/11 first responder has been one of the worst. pic.twitter.com/wTT4MHMldN

"I spent a lot of time down there with you," he says to 9/11 first responders.
Can you imagine what would happen if a Democratic president lied so blatantly about taking part in the grueling work at Ground Zero? https://t.co/HDqg7wwo7p
