Trump Not Taking ‘Anything off the Table’ for Wall

Donald Trump on Face the Nation

In an interview airing today, Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan sat down with Donald Trump, starting off by asking the president if he would consider another government shutdown in the wake of the most recent one that caused chaos over 35 days.

The president initially took a “wait and see” approach, saying, “we’re going to have to see what happens on February 15th.”

When pressed by Brennan if the president was willing to take another shutdown over him getting funding for his southern border wall between the United States and Mexico off the table, the president was much clearer.

“Well, I don’t — I don’t take anything off the table,” said Trump. “I don’t like to take things off the table. It’s that alternative. It’s national emergency, it’s other things and you know there have been plenty national emergencies called.”

“This really is an invasion of our country by human traffickers,” continued the President. “These are people that are horrible people bringing in women mostly, but bringing in women and children into our country. Human trafficking. And we’re going to have a strong border. And the only way you have a strong border is you need a physical barrier. You need a wall. And anybody that says you don’t, they’re just playing games.”

The president also struck a defiant tone about the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

“I think that she was very rigid — which I would expect — but I think she is very bad for our country,” Trump said. “She knows that you need a barrier. She knows that we need border security. She wanted to win a political point. I happen to think it’s very bad politics because basically she wants open borders. She doesn’t mind human trafficking or she wouldn’t do this.”

Brennan reminded the president that Pelosi offered over one billion dollars for border security, but without Trump’s wall, to which Trump claimed Pelosi is costing the United States hundreds of billions.

“She’s costing the country hundreds of billions of dollars because what’s happening is when you have a porous border, and when you have drugs pouring in, and when you have people dying all over the country because of people like Nancy Pelosi who don’t want to give proper border security for political reasons, she’s doing a terrible disservice to our country,” said Trump. “And on the 15th we have now set the table beautifully because everybody knows what’s going on because of the shutdown. People that didn’t have any idea — they didn’t have a clue as to what was happening, they now know exactly what’s happening. They see human trafficking. They see drugs and gangs and criminals pouring in. Now, we catch them because we’re doing a great job. But if we had proper border security, we wouldn’t have to work so hard and we could do an even better job, and I think Nancy Pelosi is doing a terrible disservice to the people of our country.”

When Brennan reminded Trump that he would, nevertheless, have to make a deal with Pelosi, Trump remained argumentative.

“No, she can keep playing her games, but we will win. Because we have a much better issue. On a political basis, what she’s doing is — I actually think it’s bad politics, but much more importantly it’s very bad for our country,” said Trump.

Trump Defends Anti-Semitic Trope by Posting Claim From Birther Saying Jews ‘Love’ Trump Like ‘The King of Israel’

Wayne Allyn Root Once Bragged About the Size of the President’s Penis

President Trump once again is playing defense after launching an anti-Semitic trope on Tuesday accusing the vast majority of Jews in America of “great disloyalty.” The president did what he always does in these situations: finds anyone who will still support him and post their praise to Twitter.

Trump’s choice this time to “prove” he’s not anti-Semitic, despite delivering a grotesque anti-Semitic trope, is Wayne Allyn Root, who supposedly compared Trump to the “King of Israel,” and the “second coming of God.”

Root is a far right wing conspiracy theorist who once bragged about the size of President Trump’s penis. Root, as The Daily Beast reported last September, claimed Special Counsel Robert Mueller was investigating Trump’s ties to Russia because he has “penis envy.”

“Mueller’s is smaller than Trump’s,” Root said, according to Right Wing Watch.

Root is also a birther, and claimed that the white supremacist who killed Heather Heyer at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville was probably an actor paid by George Soros. Soros, a Jewish philanthropist, is the target of much of the far right’s conspiracy theories.

But back to Trump’s Wednesday morning tweets.

Here’s what he claims Root said:

“President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world…and the Jewish people in Israel love him like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God…But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense! But that’s OK, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for all Jews, Blacks, Gays, everyone. And importantly, he’s good for everyone in America who wants a job.”

Root, by the way, in June of 2016 declared his support for Trump by announcing, “I am a Jew turned evangelical Christian. I am also a passionate supporter of Donald Trump.”

Here’s how Trump’s tweets are being received:

In Insane Tweet Trump Baselessly Accuses Democratic Lawmaker of ‘Violence’

Published

on

President Donald Trump, in a strangely giddy and unhinged tweet on Tuesday baselessly accused Democratic U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of “violence.”

“Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears. I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS, for far too long,” Trump tweeted. “Now tears? She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite. She and her 3 friends are the new face of the Democrat Party. Live with it!”

It’s unclear what the president was referring to when he accused the Michigan Congresswoman of violence, but his other remarks appear to be directed at a press conference she held Monday.

Rep. Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar “appeared at the news conference with Jewish leaders from their districts and called on all members of Congress to visit Israel and the West Bank,” Haaretz reports, noting the President’s Tuesday tweet. “Tlaib said that ‘all Americans should be distrubed’ [sic] by the decision not to let them enter.”

Trump publicly advocated for Israel to block Rep. Tlaib and other Democratic lawmakers from entering the country. Israel complied, although later said Tlaib could visit her elderly grandmother if she obeyed certain restrictions. She rejected the offer.

DeVos-Linked Christian Adoption Agency Exposed Dozens of Children’s Highly Sensitive Medical Data Online: Report

Published

on

A Christian adoption agency linked to Trump Education Secretary Betsy DeVos that also has a disturbing history of anti-LGBTQ bias is once again under fire, this time over a report that it left exposed online the “highly sensitive” medical data from 40 of its potential child adoptees.

In addition to names and dates of birth, Bethany Christian Services allegedly left information ranging from HIV status to lab test results to “intellectual development” to number of teeth in “PDFs openly available on its website. Some PDFs were called ‘Children Medical Examination Records,'” VICE News reports.

The charity has multiple connections to the DeVos family: Brian DeVos, a cousin of Betsy DeVos’ husband, was a senior vice president at the organization; Maria DeVos has served on Bethany’s board; and the DeVos family foundations donated more than $6 million to the charity between 1998 and 2016, according to NPR.

Bethany Christian Services is a faith-based foster care and adoption contractor that says it works in 30 states across the country. The State of Michigan last year sued the organization after learning Bethany refused to work with LGBTQ people and same-sex parents. In April the organization, saying it was “disappointed,” agreed to reverse its policy for Michigan, and reportedly will place children in homes headed by LGBTQ people.

Last month Rewire News reported Bethany is one of two organizations that are now “receiving federal teen pregnancy prevention funding” that “promote medication abortion reversal, which the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists considers ‘unproven and unethical.'”

Bethany has benefited from the Trump administration’s family and child migrant “zero tolerance” separation policy. It has been awarded contracts to foster children – reportedly at the rate of $200 to $700 per night per child.
