U.S. Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is being mocked on social media after he berated the CEO of Google for the behavior of a “hand-me-down” iPhone his grandchild was using.
“I have a 7-year old granddaughter who picked up her phone during the election, and she’s playing a little game, the kind of game a kid would play,” King told Google CEO Sundar Pichai at Tuesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing.
“And up on there pops a picture of her grandfather,” the Congressman King complains, presumably referring to himself. “And I’m not going to say into the record what kind of language was used around that picture of her grandfather, but I’d ask you: How does that show up on a 7-year old’s iPhone, who’s playing a kid’s game?”
Pichai offered the most polite response he could muster.
“Congressman, the iPhone is made by a different company. And so, you know, I mean,” the Google CEO said.
iPhones are made by Apple.
Rep. King, a far right wing anti-LGBT, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, white nationalist extremist, was undeterred.
“It might have been an Android,” he offered, not actually knowing for sure. “It’s just, it was a hand-me-down of some kind,” he added, as if iPhones were children’s clothing.

Here’s what some on social media had to say in response to King’s astonishing ignorance:
“It was a hand-me-down of some kind…”
So, some adult upgraded to a new phone and they gave this one to a kid. They didn’t do a factory reset, didn’t clean up the platform. Just put some kid apps on it and handed it over.
And that’s somehow the tech guy’s fault.

Sundar Pichai has sidestepped a ton of questions, but I’ll give him one thing: he has the patience of a saint right now. Rep. Steve King asks Pichai a question about his granddaughter’s iPhone. Pichai says Google doesn’t make iPhones. King: “It could have been an Android.”

What I’d like to ask @SteveKingIA about his stupid iPhone question today:
“How does a racist, incompetent moron like Steve King, get elected and have governing power?”
— Zachary Miller (@zachmiller) December 11, 2018
I’m curious which iPhone game comes with “Steve King is a neo-Nazi” pop-ups
— John Hendel (@Hendyhendel) December 11, 2018
@SteveKingIA just doesn’t like that iPhone because it’s black.
— brad vachal (@bradvachal) December 11, 2018
steve king is mad that even iphone games for kids say he’s a racist https://t.co/RKec7qCq3K

Klansman Steve is an idiot and why does a 7 yo have an iPhone?
— Her Royal Fierceness 👑😚 (@TheFierceDiva1) December 11, 2018
One possible way to prevent your granddaughter from seeing her granddad described as a racist white nationalist or “Nazi” would be to not give a 7 year old her own iphone OR––and this is hardly even worth mentioning––for her granddad not to be one.
— Jared Lipof (@jaredlipof) December 11, 2018
Seeing racist old fart @SteveKingIA fumble around with his iPhone while asking questions about Google should be a strong reminder: our elected officials are dumb as shit. No idea how anything works They only know what lobbyists tell them.

‘Make It a Twofer’: Trump Brutally Mocked After Claiming ‘Rumor Has It’ CNN’s President Will Be ‘Resigining’
President Donald Trump unleashed his second attack on the media over the course of less than 24 hours, this time attacking his top news target, CNN, as “a virtual fraud.” The president also claimed “rumor has it” CNN’s president, Jeff Zucker, “will be resigining momentarily?” (The typo is Mr. Trump’s.)
Now that we have found out that @CNN is a virtual fraud, rumor has it that Jeff Zucker will be resigining momentarily?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 15, 2019
Trump did not specify exactly why this time he is calling CNN “a virtual fraud,” but late Monday he posted tweets promoting far right wing activist and conspiracy theorist group Project Veritas, headed by James O’Keefe, who has been targeting CNN. O’Keefe is best-known for his fraudulent and deceptively-edited videos that were used to destroy ACORN, while other videos tried to take down Planned Parenthood.
“Project Veritas-Obtained Undercover Videos Highlight Jeff Zucker’s (@CNN) Campaign To Destroy Trump. Videos Reveal @CNN’s BIAS!” @TuckerCarlson @FoxNews Does this sound like a good, or even great, lawsuit?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 15, 2019
UPDATE: CNN spokesperson responds:

Social media users were quick to blast the president’s serial dishonesty and astonishing lack of self-awareness.
— Oliver Willis (@owillis) October 15, 2019
Fun facts about Project Veritas:
– O’Keefe paid $100K to settle a defamation case.
– Project Veritas was caught trying to trick The Washington Post into posting a false story.
– O’Keefe has a federal criminal record.
But sure, let’s believe him.

Rumor has it that you can’t spell “resigning,” and that you paid $25M for fraud with a fake university, and $6M for fraud with one of your failed condo projects. Also, your fraudulent charity was shut down because you were stealing from it. Will you be resigining momentarily?

Stop using your position as President of the United States to attack the media. It’s disgraceful. A free and independent press is indispensable to a healthy democracy (which of course I recognize you’re trying hard to undermine).

News isn’t fake just because it’s critical of you. Alternative facts are not real unless supported by evidence. Trump’s war isn’t with the MSM, it’s with the facts. Donald Trump and Fox News are the fake news you seek. Entertainment programming for ratings and advertisers

The Kurds are being slaughtered. ISIS will soon be on the rise again, thanks to you; people are going bankrupt over healthcare costs; people can’t afford their prescriptions; minimum wage is stagnate; the 1% got all the tax breaks, and you’re tweeting about @CNN. Sick.

What does #resigining mean?
If there is a fraud in our midst it is not @CNN . It’s odd that every Trump critic, regardless of evidence to the contrary is a fraud. Every Trump apologist – regardless of the absence of evidence is the greatest thing since Walter Cronkite.

Top Republican Who Once Said Putin Pays Trump Demands Pelosi Suspend Impeachment and Agree to ‘Co-Equal’ GOP Control
House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is demanding Speaker Nancy Pelosi suspend the entire impeachment inquiry until she agrees to a massive list of ultimatums that would effectively give the GOP equal control over the process.
McCarthy has a damaged and troubled history. As the number two man in GOP leadership he openly admitted that House Republicans spent millions of taxpayer dollars and an unlimited number of hours on a two-year Benghazi investigation, all with the express purpose of harming Hillary Clinton’s presidential election prospects.
“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping,” McCarthy admitted on tape.
In 2016, just one month before Donald Trump officially became the Republican Party’s nominee for president, McCarthy was caught on tape admitting he thinks Russian President Vladimir Putin “pays” Donald Trump.
“Swear to God,” McCarthy added.
But now McCarthy has sent a two-page letter telling the Speaker of the House how to conduct the impeachment investigation.
“By answering ‘no’ to any of” his demands, McCarthy writes, the impeachment would be “completely devoid of any merit or legitimacy,” he claims.
That claim is false.
For example, McCarthy demands she provide “the President’s counsel the right to object to the admittance of evidence.” He also demands she give “the President’s counsel the right to cross-examine witnesses.”
And he is demanding Speaker Pelosi “grant co-equal subpoena power” to Republicans on each of the committees working on impeachment.
McCarthy’s letter came out after Trump stunningly stood on the White House lawn Thursday morning and asked China to dig up dirt on Joe Biden.
Trump Jr. Event So ‘Sparsely Attended’ That People Were Asked to Leave Seats and Huddle Around Stage: Reporter
Attendance at a campaign rally for Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin that featured Donald Trump Jr. was so poor on Thursday afternoon that the few people there were asked to leave their seats and crowd around the stage.
Ryland Barton, the statehouse reporter for Kentucky Public Radio, posted a photo on his Twitter account showing the tiny crowd at the event.
“Organizers have asked the audience to move out of the seats and closer to the stage ahead of Trump Jr/ Gov. Bevin event in Pikeville,” he wrote. “I think it’s fair to say this is sparsely attended.”

According to local news station WYMT, Trump Jr. traveled to Eastern Kentucky this week in the hopes of helping Bevin’s reelection campaign.
Bevin, a Tea Party favorite and an ally of President Donald Trump, holds the dubious distinction of being America’s least popular governor. According to the latest polling from Morning Consult, Bevin’s approval in the deep-red state stands at just 32 percent, while his disapproval rating is 56 percent.
