Watch: Trump Lies That He’s Giving Out a New Middle Class Tax Cut ‘Next Week’ – Here’s Why That’s Impossible
President Donald Trump for the past week has been promising voters he is going to give the middle class an additional ten-percent tax cut next week.
That’s impossible.
First of all, the president can’t just create a tax cut. Both chambers of Congress have to vote for it.
And second, Congress is in recess until the middle of November.
So when reporters asked the president Monday about his tax cuts promise, and promise it would happen next week, here’s what he said, per the White House transcript:
Q: TAX CUTS BY NOVEMBER
POTUS: “No, no, we’re putting in a resolution some time in the next week or week and a half, two weeks. We’re giving a middle income tax reduction of about 10%. We’re doing it now for middle income people. This isn’t for business; this is for middle. That’s on top of the tax decrease that we’ve already given.”
Q: ARE YOU SIGNING AN EXECUTIVE ORDER?
POTUS: “No, no, I’m going through Congress. We won’t have time to do the vote; we’ll do the vote later. We’ll do the vote after the election.”
That’s not actually how things work, but apparently not understanding the very basics of government runs in the family.
Meanwhile, if that sounded like gobbledygook double speak, try watching the video:
Asked about bogus promise he made on Sat. about new tax cuts being passed before Nov. 6, Trump says, vaguely, “we’re putting in a resolution sometime in the next week & a half or 2 weeks…I’m going through Congress. We won’t have time to do the vote. We’ll do the vote later.” pic.twitter.com/W77LSPd178
