‘White Supremacists Are American Citizens. Illegal Immigrants Shouldn’t Be Here’ Says Noted Conservative ‘Thinker’ on Fox News
Tucker Carlson Suggests Politicians ‘Not Ready to Lead’ if They Don’t Love White Supremacists
Right wing author and pundit Mark Steyn says that “white supremacists are American citizens. The illegal immigrants are people who shouldn’t be here,” while claiming that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and CNN’s Chris Cuomo have a “preference” for “importing a class of citizen that they prefer,” meaning undocumented immigrants. Steyn insists lawmakers must put white supremacists ahead of undocumented immigrants.
Steyn made his vile remarks on Fox News Thursday, during “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
Carlson, the conservative cable news network’s top host, responded by asking, “How can you lead a country whose population you despise?”
“Doesn’t that, kind of, prima facia, show that you’re not ready to lead if you don’t love the people you’re leading?”
Steyn, whom Carlson introduced as a “real thinker,” responded by saying “the Democrats are getting very close to saying that foreigners are God’s apology for Americans.”

An immigrant from Canada, Mark Steyn went on to tell Tucker Carlson that “the cultural transformation” by immigrants is “forever.”
“In Arizona a majority of the grade school children now are Hispanic. That means Arizona’s future is as an Hispanic society. That means in effect the border has moved north.”
Actually, it doesn’t. Not even close.Â
Rather than point out or push back on the astonishing racism he had just heard and enabled, Carlson called it “bewildering for people who grew up here.” Hispanics and people of many different backgrounds “grew up here.”
“I don’t think you have to be animated by hate or anything to say, you know, maybe I should have some say in how my country evolves,” Carlson concluded.
ThinkProgress‘ Judd Legum observes, “Carlson believes that it is legitimate for white people to want to exclude Hispanics from the the United States to preserve the country’s white identity.”
On Twitter, many expressed outrage.

You know who isn’t American?
MARK STEYN.
You are from Canada.
There are millions of Hispanics who are American. They are America.
You are Canadian. https://t.co/oGqmPsYL8C

anyway, as a parent of two Latino kids who speak Spanish as their first language and wear little mariachi outfits on September 16th, I cordially invite Mark Steyn to self-deport to Iceland or wherever he won’t feel threatened by them

I’m all for enforcing immigration laws and border security, but this textbook racism and bigotry. Also, has it ever occurred to Mark Steyn that he himself is an immigrant? https://t.co/Z7TrQzHkXO

The incompatibility of “Hispanic society†with America would be news to New Mexico, which is majority Hispanic. Seems to work just fine there.
Just admit you are white supremacists, you goons. @TuckerCarlson @MarkSteynOnline https://t.co/imt0nCl8YQ

The best argument against immigration is that Canadian racists like Mark Steyn are taking away Fox News jobs that used to be done by American racists. https://t.co/FEaNxd5SJj

A lot of attention is being paid to Mark Steyn going full-on white supremacist tonight on Tucker. But Carlson was just as bad, if not worse, tonight.
He began the show by arguing that diversity is bad for America before saying Latinos are too dumb to hold tech jobs.

This is so stupid and offensive and white supremicist and typical of Tucker Carlson’s so #basic, hateful M.O. Like saying Miami is a part of Israel. And insulting to the actual Americans of Arizona, no matter their ethnicity. (And @MarkSteynOnline is Canadian.) https://t.co/TI7s1h4Byx
