‘We Are Now Formally Back on Indictment Watch’ With Trump Georgia Grand Jury: Former Federal Prosecutor

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is convening a new session for her special grand jury investigation into Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, including what he calls his “perfect” phone call during which he allergedly attempted to pressure the Georgia Secretary of State to fraudulently “find” him 11,780 more votes.
The new grand jury convenes on Tuesday. Willis had requested Atlanta judges clear their calendars for the first half of August, and also notified law enforcement officials, which The New York Times in May reported suggests she “is expecting a grand jury to unseal indictments during that time period.”

Former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance, now a professor of law and popular MSNBC/NBC News legal analyst, overnight noted, “the new session of the Fulton County, Georgia grand jury starts this week. Tuesday is the earliest theoretical date we could see an indictment. However, that period of time continues into August.”
“We’ll have to wait longer to learn precisely what ‘imminent’ means to a Georgia district attorney, but we are now formally back on indictment watch,” Vance wrote in her Substack newsletter. In January, Willis had told a judge her decision on whether or not she would bring charges was “imminent.”
“If district attorney Fani Willis indicts, that will make it three for the former president. And the special counsel’s January 6 investigation looks like it’s in high gear,” Vance continued. “Smith seems committed to leaving no stone unturned as he investigates.”
