Ted Cruz Moves to Punish Hollywood Because Freddie Mercury Isn’t Gay Enough in Chinese ‘Queen’ Movie

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is livid that China has censored homosexuality from American movies.

In an interview on Fox News, Cruz revealed that he is sponsoring new legislation to punish Hollywood studios who cooperate with Chinese censorship requirements.

“One of your bills is called the Script Act,” Fox News host Maria Bartiromo announced. “[Chinese officials] have really bullied Hollywood and Hollywood producers roll over about it. You’ve mentioned a couple of films before Top Gun, Bohemian Rhapsody.”

“It really is tragic that Hollywood has been willing to, over and over again, to kowtow to Chinese communists and let the Chinese government censor American movies,” Cruz opined.

Referring to a character in Top Gun, the senator complained: “We’re saying Maverick is afraid of the damn Chinese communists.”

“And Bohemian Rhapsody!” Bartiromo interrupted. “The Chinese communist government wanted them to edit out part when [Freddie Mercury] was gay? How do you tell the story of Bohemian Rhapsody and not say that Freddie was gay?”

“You don’t,” Cruz insisted. “But Hollywood was more than happy to edit the scene out. They did it because the Chinese government didn’t want to acknowledge that Freddy Mercury was homosexual. Look, that’s a huge part of the story!”

“The problem is Hollywood is more interested in making millions of dollars from the Chinese market than they are in free speech, than they are in artistic integrity,” the senator added.

Under Cruz’s legislation, Hollywood studios would not be allowed to use military equipment in their movies unless they stopped allowing censorship in China. It was not immediately clear why Cruz believes that a pandemic is the best time to launch his anti-China bill.

‘Lincoln Was Shot’: Internet Destroys ‘Victim in Chief’ Trump for Declaring He’s Treated ‘Worse Than Lincoln’

President Donald Trump gave Fox News an interview Sunday night and complained he is treated “worse than” President Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated.

The interview, billed as a virtual town hall, took place at the Lincoln Memorial, just feet away from the 19-foot tall statue of the nation’s 16th president. The space is considered sacred. On its steps Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech.

Trump’s remarks were in response to a question about his attacks on reporters.

“I am greeted by a hostile press, the likes of which no President has ever seen,” the nation’s 45th President declared, falsely, defending his relentless and often personal attacks on reporters. “The closest would be that gentleman right up there,” Trump said, pointing to Lincoln.

“They always said Lincoln – nobody got treated worse than Lincoln. I believe I am treated worse. You there, you see those press conferences, they come at me with questions that are disgraceful, to be honest. Disgraceful. Their manner of presentation and their words. And I feel if I was kind to them, I would be walked off the stage.”

Trump repeatedly calls the press “the enemy of the people.”

Americans on social media were outraged. Many noted President Lincoln fought the Civil War and was assassinated. Others rightly noted many other Presidents have been had to withstand harsher questioning by the press, including modern day Presidents Nixon, Ford, Obama, and both Bush 41 and Bush 43. Others noted the interview was hosted by a conservative network that is devoted to defending him 24/7.

Will Hurd: Last Remaining Black Republican in the House is Retiring

As The New Civil Rights Movement recently reported, there is a mass exodus occurring from within Congress – and tonight we have one more person to add to the ever-expanding  list: Rep. Will Hurd of Texas.

Hurd tweeted the following Thursday night:

Hurd also prepared a statement, which was released on his website.

“I left a job I loved in the CIA as an undercover officer to meet what I believed to be a need for new leadership in Congress on intelligence and national security matters,” he wrote. “I wanted to help the Intelligence Community in a different way by bringing my knowledge and experience to Congress. I’m leaving the House of Representatives to help our country in a different way. I want to use my knowledge and experience to focus on these generational challenges in new ways. It was never my intention to stay in Congress forever, but I will stay involved in politics to grow a Republican Party that looks like America.”

Hurd’s statement continued, “As the only African American Republican in the House of Representatives and as a Congressman who represents a 71% Latino district, I’ve taken a conservative message to places that don’t often hear it. Folks in these communities believe in order to solve problems we should empower people not the government, help families move up the economic ladder through free markets not socialism and achieve and maintain peace by being nice with nice guys and tough with tough guys. These Republican ideals resonate with people who don’t think they identify with the Republican Party. Every American should feel they have a home in our party.”

Hurd added, “While I have 17 months left in my term, I’m very proud of the last 55. There were times when it was fun and times when it wasn’t. When people were mad, it was my job to listen. When people felt hopeless, it was my job to care. When something was broken, it was my job to find out how to fix it.”

Upon his departure next year, Hurd will leave a void as he was the only black Republican in the House of Representatives. His district covered the southern border in Texas between El Paso and San Antonio. Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones came within half a point of unseating Hurd last year. Democrats have their finger on the pulse on this contentious race leading up to the 2020 Election.

“From San Antonio to Socorro and everywhere in between, Texans are ready for new leadership in Washington and I’m ready to serve,” Ortiz Jones said in a statement Thursday.

With this announcement, Hurd has become the sixth House Republican to resign at the end of his term in the past two weeks – and, to make matters even more interesting, he’s the third from Texas alone. As the New York Times reported, Representatives K. Michael Conaway and Pete Olson of Texas have also announced their retirements, along with Rob Bishop of Utah, Paul Mitchell of Michigan and Martha Roby of Alabama. And two more — Representatives Susan Brooks of Indiana and Rob Woodall of Georgia — made their decisions earlier in the year.

DOJ Censors Mueller Ahead of Highly-Anticipated Congressional Testimony

President Donald Trump’s Dept. of Justice is censoring former Special Counsel Robert Mueller ahead of his highly-anticipated congressional testimony Wednesday.

According to Politico the Trump DOJ is claiming anything outside of what is already published in the special counsel’s 448-page report falls under “presidential privilege” and cannot be used during his testimony.

“In extensive discussions since the former special counsel was subpoenaed to testify on June 25, department officials have emphasized that they consider any evidence he gathered throughout the course of his investigation to be ‘presumptively privileged’ and shielded from public disclosure,” Politico reports.

Mueller is a private citizen and no longer bound by claims of presidential privilege.

However, White House attorneys will not be seated with the former special counsel, and Mueller, who has actively sought to limit his own testimony to what his spokesperson calls the “four walls of the report,” is unlikely to venture beyond those self-imposed constraints.
