Watch: Pompeo Jokes That Trump Will ‘Make a Lot of News’ in Address to Nation on Border ‘Crisis’ – Then Laughs

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Jordan and chatted with reporters Tuesday about President Trump’s impending address to the nation on the border wall, before continuing his meeting foreign leaders. The Trump administration in recent days has repeatedly without evidence described the situation at the border as a “humanitarian and national security crisis.”

Pompeo said he has seen a draft of the speech that the president will deliver Tuesday night, which will preempt network programming.

“It’s gonna be about the border, mostly about our southern border. I saw an early version of it. He’ll make a lot of news,” Pompeo “said with a laugh,” as CBS News reports.

The State Dept. actually released video:

Calling it “unclear what that news might be,” CBS adds, “Vice President Mike Pence wouldn’t say whether Mr. Trump would declare a national emergency in an attempt to free up funding for his wall, something the president said he was considering.”

It’s also unclear what kind of news about what the administration is describing as a “humanitarian and national security crisis” would be deserving of laughter.
