Trump Caves on SOTU in Desperate Late Night Tweets
President Donald Trump late Wednesday night announced he will deliver the State of the Union address after the federal government is re-opened.
It is a stunning turn of events. The President of the United States has been playing “chicken” with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, first by telling her that he would own the shutdown, then reneging, trying to blame her and the Democrats.
On Wednesday, the politics got heated, in dueling – and very public – letters.
Trump told Speaker Pelosi he would deliver the State of the Union address in the House of Representatives. The Speaker responded almost instantaneously, telling the President she would not allow it until the shutdown ends.
At 11:12 PM ET President Trump acquiesced, tweeting, “I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over.”
As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address. I agreed. She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative – I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over. I am not looking for an….

Minutes later, he admitted he wanted the “history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber.”

Clearly, Speaker Pelosi has won this round.
Now, perhaps the President and the Senate Majority Leader can re-open the federal government?
