Fox News Describes Democratic Challenger to Indicted Congressman as the Relative to a ‘Terrorist’
Right now on the front page of FoxNews.com the lead story is about the Democratic opponent of Duncan Hunter, the indicted firebrand Republican U.S. Congressman charged with improperly spending a quarter-million dollars in campaign contributions.
The Fox News headline?
“Grandson of terrorist rises in race against indicted GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter.”
At least Fox News noted that Rep. Hunter has been indicted – although it includes a grainy photo of a man in a ski mask, to reinforce the Democrat equals terrorist narrative.
For those unfamiliar with basic journalism standards, unlike the Bible the sins of the father (or mother) should not be “visited” upon their children. In other words, a candidate for Congress should not be identified as the grandson of a terrorist, unless they, too, are a terrorist.
By comparison, the L.A. Times on Thursday described Hunter’s Democratic challenger in a story titled, “Who’s running against Duncan Hunter? Ammar Campa-Najjar, a millennial Palestinian Mexican American.”
The Times article adds, “29-year-old Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar, a Palestinian Mexican American who spent part of his childhood in the Gaza Strip,” and, as someone “who worked on President Obama’s reelection campaign,” and “has never before run for public office.”
The Times explains what Fox News is talking about, saying, Campa-Najjar’s “campaign was dealt a serious blow in February when an Israeli newspaper reported that his grandfather, Muhammed Yusuf al-Najjar, was one of the leaders of the massacre at the 1972 Munich Olympics that left 11 athletes and coaches dead. Israeli commandos killed his grandfather in 1973.”
Clicking on the Fox News story the headline grows, to: “Grandson of Munich terrorist rises in race against indicted Rep. Hunter, disavows dark family past.”
No wonder Fox News dropped its “fair and balanced” claim. Now, it’s just obviously, incredibly biased.
