‘Work Reference From Your Mom’: Internet Schools Trump After He Tweets Fake Poll Numbers Claim
President Donald Trump tells tall tales on a daily basis – The Washington Post has his current lying level between 5 and 6 lies per day. And yet, many were scratching their heads Friday afternoon, when Trump tweeted several entirely untethered claims about his poll numbers and the factual rate of journalism in general.
“Can you believe that despite 93% bad stories from the Fake News Media (should be getting good stories), today we had just about our highest Poll Numbers, including those on Election Day? The American public is wise to the phony an dishonest press. Make America Great Again!”
Actually, the America public is wise to Trump’s phony claims. (Also, to his strange need to randomly capitalize words, and the typo in “an.”)
What poll is he talking about? Even his favorite, Rasmussen, which many see as pro-Trump, puts him at under 50%.
Social media users didn’t hold back their contempt:
Is Trump talking about any actual new poll? He's fallen back below 50 in Rasmussen daily tracking, don't see any other polls out today. (Don't just tell me HE LIES DON'T YOU GET IT, I get it but need an actual answer) pic.twitter.com/Khdly5QNlq

93%. Not 92%, not 94%. 93%.
Also, Trump’s latest poll numbers show his popularity actually dropping. This is probably why he’s freaking out about them, and thus lying about them. https://t.co/lP12uNkYOP

Just believe the 7% of favorable stories from the Real News Media (Fox). All depends what pollsters you believe.
Gallup polls Trumps approval rating at 39%
This poll has been taken since 1938
Average Presidential rating since then 53%

my friend, as you know, yhe sycophantic Rasmussen is an outlier almost as high as the moon, yet even they dropped their estimate of your approval to 49%. With down-to-earth credible polls like @WSJ scoring 39%, how do you imagine your ratings are up? pic.twitter.com/9GMJ1h5765

Hmm…It only took me TWO SECONDS to find ALL the approval polls which conclusively tell me people HATE you and you SUCK.https://t.co/axshpmShui

Are those the polls conducted by your friends? Who call their friends to ask about your job performance? Kinda like getting a work reference from your mom, right? #FakePollsFakeResults

Earlier today the AP post their latest poll results:
A new @AP poll finds some 40 percent of Americans approve of the overall job Trump is doing as president while 59 percent disapprove. That’s about the same as a month ago. https://t.co/y7eHBxGgCN pic.twitter.com/32ib1FdF8Y
