“We probably provoked them because we were walking together, holding hands. It was gay pride, South Beach was full of gay people,” Dmitry Logunov, one of the men beaten, tells NBC 6.
“This was the first time that I go to this type of event, and of course it got me overwhelmed like, ‘Why, why us? Why is this happening, especially here in Miami?” Rene Chalarca, who was holding hands with Logunov, says.
NBC 6 aired a portion of the surveillance camera footage (video below), that shows the beating as it began.
Miami Beach Police Officer Ernesto Rodriguez on-camera tells viewers, “What you see on the video continues. And it continues once they are on the ground and they continue to be attacked and violently punched.”
