Twitter Having a Great Time Mocking White House Claim That ‘The President Is Not a Liar’
Nixonian
Donald Trump has been president for exactly 139 days, one hours, and a few minutes and already his White House has had to issue this statement: “the president is not a liar.”
White House Deputy Spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders in an off-camera briefing responded to former FBI Director Jim Comey’s charge that the president’s claims after firing him, that he was bad at his job and that morale at the Bureau was poor under his leadership were “lies, plain and simple.”
“I can definitively say the president is not a liar,” Sanders said Thursday, according to Politico. “It’s frankly insulting that that question would be asked.”

Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that President Trump’s remarks were not only false but confusing.
“It confused me when I saw the president on TV saying he actually fired me because of the Russian investigation,†Comey said. “I was also confused by the initial explanation offered publicly that I was fired because of decisions I’d made during the election… That didn’t make any sense to me.â€
Comey also testified that the White House “chose to defame” him, “and more importantly the FBI, by saying the organization was poorly led.”
“Those were lies, plain and simple,” Comey declared.
Twitter had a great time responding to Sanders’ remarks, often comparing them to those made by Richard Nixon himself, “I am not a crook.”

Sarah Huckabee Sanders having to say “The president is not a liar” will go down in history as reminiscent of Nixon saying “I’m not a crook.”

Echoes of Nixon.
