President-Elect Unleashes One Of His Most Offensive Twitter Outbursts To Date

mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!

Predictably, Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday morning to respond to Democratic Georgia Congressman John Lewis, who said Friday said he doesn’t see the president-elect as legitimate and won’t be attending his Inauguration.Â
“Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk – no action or results. Sad!” Trump wrote.Â
Based on his short fuse and fragile ego, it’s hardly surprising that Trump couldn’t help himself. But in this case, he crossed the line in what was arguably his most offensive Twitter outburst to date.
Monday is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and Lewis is a beloved civil rights icon and former Freedom Rider who was beaten by police and arrested dozens of times. Trump is already regarded as racist by many, and this won’t do anything to help.Â
Here’s how Twitter responded:Â
As the first black POTUS leaves office with honor, a new president supported by white nationalists fights with John Lewis on MLK weekend.

Waiting for @realDonaldTrump to tell us that the real heroes were the men clubbing John Lewis.

John “All Talk” Lewis was being beaten on the Selma bridge when you were working with your Dad to refuse black people apartments. You fuck. https://t.co/LgoxpVMcGr

Here’s a first: president-elect of the United States trolls a civil-rights icon & dismisses Atlanta as “falling apart” & “crime infested.” pic.twitter.com/2XnyBW4nJG

@realDonaldTrump John Lewis has more courage, grit and patriotism in his toenails than you have in every ounce of your body, Donald Trump.
— Justin Hendrix (@justinhendrix) January 14, 2017
While you avoided the draft, John Lewis risked his life for equality in America. You’ll never even dream of such selfless patriotism, Donald https://t.co/gTWwfzkwkH

John Lewis is a civil rights hero. His actions changed the lives of millions.
This is an ignorant and vile tweet. https://t.co/IhtJW6cNMn

Hardly the most egregious part of the Trump tweet, but Lewis represents the nicest parts of Atlanta. Black congressman does not = slumlord.

on the real: i doubt trump knows anything about john lewis.

I’m not a huge booster of my hometown but few cities have more pride than Atlanta, especially in the business community. This won’t sit well https://t.co/lBaEKs8yUi

John Lewis is a hero
Trump has sent a lot of reprehensible tweets. This is the worst.
Any Republican who doesn’t condemn shows true colors https://t.co/lqekDxkU9W

Trump tells a man who was arrested two dozen times and beaten by police at Selma while demanding his rights that he’s ‘all talk’. https://t.co/UAayOQpvWm

John Lewis was nearly beaten to death because when he fought for civil rights. “All talk” is not the right attack here. https://t.co/nZ9NeRZLuS

The good (rich) people of Buckhead, Decatur & Northside Atlanta would disagree with this assessment of the state of their neighborhoods. https://t.co/lBaEKs8yUi

John Lewis is perhaps the only human on capitol hill beloved by Republicans and Democrats. https://t.co/L6HRWBEj1O
