Connecticut Democrat Dan Malloy becomes the first governor in the nation to ban travel over Indiana’s anti-gay “religious freedom” law.
Governor Dan Malloy of Connecticut this morning posted two tweets announcing he will be banning state-funded travel to Indiana after Republican Gov. Mike Pence signed into law highly-controversial and divisive anti-gay legislation.
Pence’s law opens the door to legalized and state-sanctioned discrimination against minorities and women, by anyone or any business in Indiana, merely based on a personal interpretation of one’s religious beliefs.
The Huffington Post confirmed the intent of Gov. Malloy’s tweets, and says it reached out to Gov. Pence for comment but did not receive one.
Gov. Malloy follows int he footsteps of two mayors, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, both of whom have also banned city-funded travel to Indiana.

Pence’s law has caused an uproar across the nation, with everyone from the White House to Broadway’s Audra McDonald, to Hillary Clinton speaking out against the new anti-gay law.
Also speaking out and taking action are Indiana-based Angie’s List, Apple, Inc.’s Tim Cook, $4 billion software firm Salesforce, $50 million annual gaming convention Gen Con, Fortune 500 member Cummins, Eskenazi Health, Eli Lilly and Co., Yelp, George Takei, Pat McAfee, Jason Collins, Ashton Kutcher, Miley Cyrus, James Van Der Beek, Sophia Bush, Dustin Lance Black, Mara Wilson, Jack Antonoff, the Mayor of Indianapolis, and the State of Indiana’s own tourism board, and many, many others.
On Saturday afternoon, about 3000 citizens, gay, straight, Black, white, Republican, Democratic, secular, religious, joined together in a rally to support the LGBT community – seen as the target of the law – and to denounce lawmakers and Governor Pence for enabling and promoting discrimination.
And on Sunday, Gov. Pence went on ABC News’ “This Week” to refuse to answer questions about the law.
