Explained: Catholics Support Obama Contraception Coverage Mandate (Video)
American Catholics support President Obama’s mandate that Catholic and other religious-owned businesses provide contraception services to their employees via their health insurance coverage. But of course the radical religious right has hijacked the conversation in America and thrown false and insulting arguments at the issue, in an attempt to create the perception the President Obama is waging a war on religion.
Among all women who have had sex, 99% have ever used a contraceptive method other than natural family planning. This figure is virtually the same among Catholic women (98%).
Among sexually active women of all denominations who do not want to become pregnant, 69% are using a highly effective method (i.e., sterilization, the pill or another hormonal method, or the IUD).
Some 68% of Catholic women use a highly effective method, compared with 73% of Mainline Protestants and 74% of Evangelicals.
Only 2% of Catholic women rely on natural family planning; this is true even among Catholic women who attend church once a month or more.
More than four in 10 Evangelicals rely on male or female sterilization, a figure that is higher than among the other religious groups.

What they’re afraid to say is that President Obama is waging a war on ignorance and on the Republican war on women and minorities.
Zinnia Jones, in her ever-so-brilliant way, throws facts and figures, intellect and analysis at this fake “war on religion.”
Surprise! Catholics support Obama and use contraception. Jones, in the video below (transcript here,) says:
But how do Catholics themselves feel about the use of birth control? A 2011 report by the Guttmacher Institute found that out of all Catholic women who have had sex, 98% used contraception other than the church-endorsed “natural family planning” method, which only 2% of them rely on – “even among Catholic women who attend church once a month or more”. 68% use IUDs, hormonal methods, or male or female sterilization. Another 15% use condoms. The statistics are largely the same for Catholic women who are married: only 3% use “natural family planning”, and 72% use IUDs, sterilization or hormonal methods.
