“Sex And The Vatican” Claims Thousands Of Priests In Illicit Relationships
“Sex and the Vatican,” a new book published Wednesday claims that thousands of Catholic priests are living their lives in secret, “illicit relationships” —  homosexual and heterosexual — according to its author, an investigative journalist who lived undercover for months to document what he calls a “hidden world.” The Roman Catholic Church does not allow its priests to have any sexual relationship — gay or straight — nor to be married, as they have taken a vow of celibacy.

The book, published for now only in Italy, was authored by Carmelo Abbate. The story has “caught the attention of media around the world – from Newsweek to the Washington Post, from CBS to theGuardian, the BBC, France 2, from El Mundo inPravda, to Iranian television – this secret journey into the Kingdom of Castile. A factual investigation by an undercover reporter who has had enormous economic and caused the reaction of the Vatican, in an official note of the Vicariate of Rome, invited the priests involved to ‘come out’,” reads a translation of its publisher’s website.
“Some priests pay ex-lovers hush money so as not to be found out while others covertly support their illegitimate children through school, the book alleges,” writes Nick Squires of the book in Canada’s The Daily Telegraph, adding, “heterosexual priests have children with women who can never be their wives, and gay priests of many different nationalities visit nightclubs in Rome and pay for sex with escorts.”

“There is a culture of ‘omerta’ (silence) in which the Church pretends not to know about any of this. If the authorities do find out, they just cover it up so as to avoid any scandal,” author Carmelo Abbate told The Daily Telegraph, which adds,
He cited research which suggests that as many as a third of Catholic priests in the United States are gay and a quarter are in heterosexual relationships with women. Similar statistics have been reported in Germany and Austria.
Women made pregnant by priests told him of being forced to have abortions, or having to put their children up for adoption in a desperate attempt to keep their relationships secret.
Some priests pay ex-lovers hush money so as not to be found out while others covertly support their illegitimate children through school, the book claims.
Last year, Abbate — who says he is Catholic himself — wrote the beginnings of this book as a story for the Italian Magazine Panorama, and gave an interview about the story in which he suggested the Pope “better change jobs.”
In that Panorama exposé, Abbate wrote that one Italian priest claimed that 98% of all Vatican priests are gay.
“Gay priests are apparently not a rarity in Rome,” wrote BeyondChron, a U.S. magazine that reviewed Abbate’s Panorama story. “Father Carlo (another fake name) told the magazine that 98% of the priests in the “Holy City†are queer. He sat with the reporter at a restaurant frequented by gays and pointed out a male couple in which one was a priest. Afterwards, he led the tour guide to his apartment and they had “un rapporto sessuale†(a sexual encounter).”
“But as gay activist Franco Grillini, a former MP, observed: “If all the gays in the Catholic church were to leave it at once–something we would very much like — they would cause it serious operational problems.†Especially in Rome.”
A video, marked by YouTube with the warning, “This content May Contain material flagged by YouTube’s user community That May Be Inappropriate For Some users,” purportedly from Panorama, claims to document some of the allegations Abbate made last year. Via a Google translation:
“[W]ith a hidden camera investigation, followed by detailed inspections and thorough inspection. For twenty days Carmelo Abbate, a journalist for Panorama, flanked by an “accomplice” gay, has infiltrated in the evenings some good priests, in Rome, leading an amazing double life: by day they are priests in cassocks, at night, stopped his habit, men are perfectly integrated into the gay circles of the capital. What came out is that the field investigation has uncovered a really unusual and somewhat shocking priests attending night parties with escort men who have sex with casual partners, who attend gay chat and nightspots.”

A prominent Latino Republican political strategist is issuing a dire warning for the GOP about its chances of winning the November midterm elections.
Bad Bunny, the superstar Puerto Rican singer, delivered a Super Bowl halftime show with an apolitical message of unity and hope, serving up messages like, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” and, “Together, We Are America.”
Despite the show’s overwhelmingly positive reception, President Donald Trump denounced the show as “absolutely terrible,” and, “one of the worst, EVER!”
“It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence,” the president declared. “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying.”

After Sunday’s game, Madrid wrote, “Republicans still don’t realize their only slight chance of possibly holding onto congress in November is by stemming the collapse of Latino men under thirty.”
“Tonight,” he declared, “shows they’re toast.”
Antonio De Loera of the United Farm Workers responded to Madrid’s remarks.
“The unhinged reaction was all the more telling because the show *wasnt* really that political,” he wrote. “No masked goons, no kids in cages, just Latinos being ourselves and having a good time. The right still freaked. They really just don’t want to share the country with us at all.”
Pointing to Bad Bunny’s performance, Madrid expanded on his remarks.
“Bad Bunny didn’t just ask for a seat at the table,” he observed. “He flipped it over and brought in a bigger one.”
“A new America is emerging with a more expansive view of patriotism, love of country and Americanness. It’s coming! It’s here! Whether you like it or not.”
One commentator wrote, “This is why Donald Trump won,” to which Madrid responded, “This is why the Republicans are gonna lose so big in November.”

As the GOP’s chances of retaining the House appear to be growing smaller and now even their hopes of holding on to the Senate majority could be “at risk,” elected Republicans and GOP strategists are reportedly frustrated with President Donald Trump’s level of interest in the 2026 midterms. They are waiting to see how he plans to disburse funds from his $300 million war chest, and his valuable endorsements.
“There’s only one person in the world who’s going to make that decision and we can’t wait,” U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), running in a tight primary, told The Washington Post as he waits to learn if he will be granted Trump’s endorsement.
Privately, there is “rising frustration” among Republicans with President Trump and his team’s “apparent lack of urgency,” the Post notes, citing sources.

“Republicans are anxiously awaiting a clear picture of the Trump team’s plans as the president’s sagging approval ratings and Democratic overperformances in special elections have darkened the GOP’s outlook for November’s midterms,” the Post reported.
Senate Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, have been “frustrated by Trump’s treatment of Senate incumbents, according to two people familiar with the tensions.”
According to the Post, people who have spoken with Trump “about these obstacles said he at times can sound detached and noncommittal about his plans for spending and endorsements. One person close to the White House said some days the president seems not to care.”
National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chairman Tim Scott (R-SC) “said a recent Fox News poll giving Democrats a 6-point advantage in House races would put all nine Senate battlegrounds up for grabs, according to two people present” at a presentation to the Republican Senate caucus last week.

President Donald Trump, his team, and his allies are “saboteurs” who are “wrecking” all the institutions that brought America prosperity and prestige, says a fascism expert who warns that the president may take action to disrupt — or even cancel —a future election.
Dr. Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a professor of history and a scholar of fascism, is an expert on authoritarianism and strongmen. She spoke with Politicon’s James Carville and Al Hunt on Friday.
When asked whether it is “accurate” to call Trump a fascist, Dr. Ben-Ghiat replied, “He’s got many fascist qualities, and they’re recycling Nazi slogans now,” she observed.
Trump, she continued, “made a campaign video that said that he was going to — he was going to create a ‘unified Reich.'”

“They’re taking from the fascist playbook,” she added, noting that they “love” Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and “all autocrats.”
“They are trying their best to have an authoritarian state and destroy our democracy,’ she warned.
Ben-Ghiat agreed that she is worried that Trump would try to do something to intervene in the elections, perhaps by not holding one.
The “more they feel backed into a corner,” she observed, “and these are people, these strong men, who live in fear of being — getting into a position where they can be held accountable.”
“It’s inconceivable that he would just leave office normally,” she noted. “So you can’t underestimate what they’re going to do.”
“It could be the Insurrection Act, it could be trying to have a state — some kind of state emergency to cancel the election,” she said. “ICE could be used in violent ways or intimidating ways to get people to stay home.”

“All kinds of tricks could be used.”
“They’re not gonna give up without a fight,” she warned.
Ben-Ghiat also said, “I have been saying since February — and people thought I was like a conspiracy theorist — that Trump and company are saboteurs.”
“They’re trying to sabotage America so thoroughly that it’ll be wrecked for generations, and that’s why they’re wrecking medical research, scientific research, child welfare. All the things that brought America prosperity and prestige in the world have to be wrecked.”
“I truly see Trump as in office in part to solve Putin’s problems. And to make autocracy flourish.”
“He’s trying to take down America in every way. So that it has its role in the Western hemisphere, and then Xi can do his thing in Asia, and Putin can prosper, and all the failed, horrible states can have a new life, because the U.S. military or the U.S. — they’re not gonna come after them.”
