‘A Disgrace to Our Country’: Trump Goes on Attack Against Democrats’ Investigation During Veterans’ Event
During a signing ceremony for an executive order combatting veterans’ suicides President Donald Trump went on the attack, slamming House Democrats who on Monday launched a massive investigation into his administration.
“It’s a disgrace. It’s a disgrace to our country,” Trump, surrounded by veterans, told reporters. Trump previously has also framed legal actions against him or his team as attacks on America, as he did when the FBI raided Michael Cohen’s home and office.
“I guess we got 81 letters. There was no collusion, that was a hoax. There was no anything,” he insisted, saying Democrats want to investigate his administration, which is their constitutional duty, “instead of getting legislation passed.”
“I’m not surprised that it’s happening. Basically, they’ve started the campaign so the campaign begins. But the campaign is actually — their campaign has been going on for the last two-and-a-half years,” the President, somewhat confused, said.
“So it’s a shame. And the people understand it. When they look at it, they just say, ‘Presidential harassment.’ But that’s OK.”
“Presidential harassment” is a term that appears to have been made up by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
