Rubio Says He Personally Apologized to Trump for ‘Small Hands’ Comment – But Here’s His Game Plan
Former GOP Presidential Candidate Returns to Public Eye and He’s on a Mission: The Supreme Court and Obamacare
Marco Rubio said he personally apologized to Donald Trump for mocking the GOP frontrunner’s “small hands,” an insinuation Trump was not well-endowed. Rubio’s remarks on the stump were a moment in U.S. politics that crossed a line that had never been crossed before. He told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview that aired on Sunday’s “State of the Union” (video above) he made the apology in private because he didn’t want any political gain from it.
“I actually told Donald – one of the debates, I forget which one – I apologized to him for that,” Rubio told Tapper. “I said, ‘You know, I’m sorry that I said that. It’s not who I am and I shouldn’t have done it.’ I didn’t say it in front of the cameras, I didn’t want any political benefit.”
Rubio has repeatedly said he does not want to run to hold his Senate seat, and will leave political life when his term expires in January.Â
But what’s behind his switch to getting on the “Trump train”?
“Everything I said in the campaign I meant,” Rubio tells Tapper (video below). So why support Trump?
“Desite all my differences with Donald Trump, I have a better chance to get a conservative nominated to the Supreme Court with him than I ever will with Hillary Clinton,” the Florida Republican says.
And he says Trump will sign a law to repeal Obamacare, and support rolling back regulations.
Rubio is extremely religious and has said he puts his faith above the Constitution.
