Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has moved to abolish all school vaccine mandates, making Florida the first state in the nation to reject the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines. He declared that every vaccine mandate “drips with disdain and slavery,” according to The Washington Post.

The CDC issues a recommended schedule of vaccines, first published three decades ago. These are not mandates but guidelines. Each state separately establishes which vaccinations must be given to children to attend public schools. Massachusetts was the first to require vaccinations, in the mid-1800s.

Now, Florida will become the “first state to completely withdraw from a practice credited with boosting vaccination rates and controlling the spread of infectious diseases.”

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis supports Ladapo’s decision, but noted that while he can remove some required vaccines, others would require legislation.

The Post reports that Ladapo also “called for a halt to using mRNA coronavirus vaccines last year, citing debunked claims that the shots could contaminate a patient’s DNA. He became the first statewide health official to urge communities to stop adding fluoride to drinking water, a practice widely credited for improving oral health.”

The first to be removed from the mandated list are vaccines against preventable diseases, including measles, mumps, chicken pox, polio and hepatitis, Ladapo said, according to The Guardian.

The Miami Herald added that “Vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives in the last 50 years, according to the World Health Organization. The vast majority of the lives saved were infants.”

Sarah Despres, a former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) official, responded to Ladapo’s claims of “disdain and slavery,” by writing: “Really? Tell that to the immunocompromised 3rd grader just trying to go to school without dying of measles.”

Florida Democratic state Representative Anna V. Eskamani warned, “Ending vaccine mandates is reckless and dangerous. It will drive down immunization rates & open the door to outbreaks of preventable diseases, putting children, seniors, and vulnerable Floridians at risk. This is a public health disaster in the making for the Sunshine State.”

U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), the Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is accusing the Trump administration of a “nakedly political” decision to cancel his non-publicized classified meeting with nonpartisan career intelligence professionals after attacks from conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who has strong ties within the Trump administration.

“Over the weekend, conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer discovered the unpublicized, classified visit and launched a campaign of baseless attacks against both me and NGA Director Vice Admiral Trey Whitworth for hosting what has always been considered a routine oversight meeting,” Vice Chair Warner said in a statement. “In response to Loomer’s criticism, political appointees canceled the visit, just the latest example of an administration seemingly desperate to please Loomer, a figure with a long history of extreme and outlandish fringe views, including 9/11 denialism, anti-Muslim harassment campaigns, and associations with white supremacists.”

Warner warned that this decision “threatens the principle of civilian oversight that protects our national security,” and labeled it a “dangerous precedent, calling into question whether oversight is now allowed only when it pleases the far-right fringe.”

Loomer has been described as a “far-right conspiracy theorist” by BBC News and a “right-wing agitator” by Wired.

“Loomer has posted an unending stream of racist and Islamophobic content online, while pushing conspiracy theories about school shootings, election fraud, and the January 6 attack on the Capitol,” Wired reported one year ago. “She has ingratiated herself with senior figures in Trumpworld, such as Roger Stone and Donald Trump Jr. And throughout it all, Trump has complimented her, online and in person at his rallies and Mar-a-Lago home. He has shared her wild racist conspiracies, and even supported her to run for Congress.”

Last week, calling it a “scoop,” Loomer invoked the “Deep State” in announcing the classified meeting, which she described as a “fireside chat,” as she called Senator Warner a “rabid ANTI-TRUMP DEMOCRAT SENATOR.”

“How are Anti-Trump Democrats who participated in the Russia conspiracy hoax even allowed to be hosted as speakers inside our Intel agencies under the Trump admin?” Loomer wrote in a question directed to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Tuesday evening Loomer celebrated, writing: “Whitworth’s scheduled September 5th fireside love fest with anti-Trump Democrat Senator @MarkWarner Mark Warner has been CANCELED!”

Just days before Loomer’s “scoop,” Senator Warner blasted DNI Gabbard.

Responding to a Wall Street Journal report that Gabbard named an undercover senior CIA officer as she stripped them of their security clearance, Warner asked, “Is Tulsi Gabbard still the DNI or is that Laura Loomer’s job now?”

“Gabbard’s purge of nonpartisan subject-matter experts is foolish, irresponsible, and short-sighted. Her actions continue to put American national security at risk,” he added. “It’s time for her to go.”

NBC News added that in April, “the director and the No. 2 official at the National Security Agency were ousted from their positions, and Loomer took credit for the dismissals. She had met with President Donald Trump that week and thanked him for ‘being receptive to the vetting materials provided to you.'”

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker blasted President Donald Trump’s latest remarks as “unhinged,” warning that the president’s threat to deploy federal troops to Chicago under the guise of fighting crime would only backfire. Pritzker also condemned what he called the “groveling yes-men” surrounding Trump and charged that he is “tearing this country apart.”

“We’re going in,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday from the Oval Office, confirming what he had only previously threatened. He did not say when Chicago could expect federal troops, but his remarks sent the Governor reeling.

“As a governor who cares about the well-being of my people, I can’t live in a fantasyland where I pretend Trump is not tearing this country apart for personal greed and power,” Governor Pritzker told reporters. “He has surrounded himself with groveling yes men, who are too weak to restrain his most violent and unhinged impulses, or who share those impulses.”

“He has no idea what he’s talking about,” Pritzker declared. “There is no emergency that warrants deployment of troops.”

Delivering facts to counter Trump’s threat, Pritzker declared, “Crime is down in Chicago. Murders are down by almost 50% in the last four years. Shootings are down 57%. Robberies down 34%. Burglaries, down 21%. Motor vehicle thefts down 26%.”

Pritzker added that “we have made important progress on safety that Trump is now jeopardizing.”

The Illinois governor also denounced Trump’s claim that he should be urging Trump to send in federal troops.

“If the governor of Illinois would call up, call me up, I would love to do it. Now, we’re going to do it anyway,” Trump said. “We have the right to do it because I have an obligation to protect this country.”

Pritzker responded.

“When did we become a country where it’s okay for the U.S. president to insist on national television that a state should call him to beg for anything, especially something we don’t want? Have we truly lost all sense of sanity in this nation, that we treat this as normal?” the governor asked.
