In Tight Election Race Ron Johnson Said He Would Not Oppose Same-Sex Marriage Bill – He Will Vote Against It Today: Report

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), one of the most unpopular of all of America’s senators, came close to loosing re-election last week. In that hard-fought race even his top state newspaper told voters to throw him out of office.

“Election deceiver, science fabulist, billionaire benefactor. After 12 years, it’s time to term-limit Sen. Ron Johnson,” was the headline by the Editorial Board of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

In an apparent effort to win re-election, Johnson said he would not oppose a pending bill to protect same-sex marriage.

“Even though I feel the Respect for Marriage Act is unnecessary, should it come before the Senate, I see no reason to oppose it,” he said in July, CNN reported.

That bill Wednesday afternoon will hit the Senate floor for its first procedural vote, and will need at least ten Republican votes to avoid a 60-vote filibuster.

Senator Johnson will oppose the bill.

The bill and its amendment ensure that no one could legitimately claim it restricts religious liberty.

In fact, the legislation was endorsed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon Church, thanks to bipartisan efforts to ensure nothing will change with the bill.
