‘Game Changer’: Morning Joe Panel Nails Giuliani’s Confessional Outburst as Evidence for Trump Impeachment

Published

on

“There’s not anything that can get you impeached if the Democrats do not act on this.”

Panelists on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” agreed President Donald Trump’s phone call to Ukraine’s president should be a “game changer” — and was clearly “impeachable.”

The July 25 call appears to have triggered a complaint from a whistleblower, after the president allegedly offered military and financial aid to Ukraine in exchange for pursuing an investigation into Joe Biden’s son doing business there.

“It does feel like a moment in time,” said MSNBC’s Donny Deutsch. “We’ve sat on this set after so many Trump’s snafus and this is it — this is a game changer. If the Democrats can’t smell this. I’ve been going all along, step away from impeachment because when it’s a process thing, when it’s campaign finance, this is the big one. If this is the case, this is the Super Bowl, and the Democrats need to pounce aggressively.”

Co-host Mika Brzezinski said details about the call likely would be revealed, and soon, and host Joe Scarborough said even Republicans — including the Senate majority leader, who finally caved on an election security bill — seemed to understand these allegations were explosive.

“I found it very telling that Mitch McConnell caved yesterday,” Scarborough said, “very telling that after doing Vladimir Putin’s bidding over the past several years, and refusing to listen to all the intel chiefs that Donald Trump appointed to protect American democracy against what they call an imminent threat, that Mitch McConnell chose yesterday, as this story was exploding about other foreign interference in American democracy, that’s when he finally caved and stopped worrying about Vladimir Putin and started worrying about protecting and defending American democracy.”

Scarborough called the allegations against Trump impeachable, and former Bush White House aide Elise Jordan said they obviously called for impeachment.

“I don’t know what is an impeachable offense if this is not,” she said. “Like, basically there’s not anything that can get you impeached if the Democrats do not act on this, and I don’t want ever again Lindsey Graham to lecture me about how, if I don’t want to send X number of troops to start a new land war, I’m not tough on national security, if this is what Republicans are willing to tolerate these days.”

Jordan pointed out that Trump’s call to Ukraine came the day after special counsel Robert Mueller testified, and the president was emboldened that he had escaped consequences for Russian efforts to get him elected — and his efforts to cover up those contacts.

“You almost have to wonder if President Trump thought, ‘Got away with it once, no consequences first go-round, let’s gear up for 2020, let’s see what we can do,” Jordan said, and then turned to Rudy Giuliani’s admissions to CNN about their new scheme. “It is just simply astounding to watch drunk grandpa last night, who needs to be just pulled off to hospice.”

Democrats Have a Plan to Accelerate Public Demand for Trump Impeachment

Published

Republicans have outspent Democrats on the impeachment battle. That’s starting to change.

According to a report from Politico, Democratic leaders are working with grassroots organizations to reach out to disaffected voters in an effort to drum up more support for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

The report notes that the public was ahead of the Democratic leadership in their demand the president be brought to account for multiple crimes committed by the president while in office, but now top Democrats who urged caution and seeing the light and working with various groups.

“For several years now, the impeachment push has been defined by activists beating the drum on Trump — and powerful Democrats in Washington ignoring their calls,” Politico reports. “But in the two weeks since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry, this organizational hub has sprouted in D.C., commissioning polling, sponsoring ads and trying to guide the energy in the party toward a message and result the public will support, while counteracting a blistering, expensive anti-impeachment campaign from Trump and the Republican National Committee.”

According to Meagan Hatcher-Mays, director at the grassroots organization Indivisible, “It’s going to be very intense. It’s all hands-on-deck for grassroots folks and everybody in DC.”

Noting that “Republicans have spent $6.3 million in advertising on television, Google and Facebook focused on impeachment,” Politico reports that grassroots organizations are working hand-in-hand to respond.

“In the days since, more than two dozen major progressive organizations started joining a daily conference call, hosted by MoveOn.org, to share plans and strategize. Pelosi’s office has also circulated talking points to organizers off Capitol Hill, urging them to push the most basic facts surrounding Trump’s interactions with Ukraine,” Politico reports. “Democratic organizations are beginning to launch ad campaigns to counter Trump’s lead and make the case to voters that he should be impeached. Need to Impeach has already begun spending $3.1 million targeting Senate Republicans on impeachment.”

Politico also points out, “progressive digital organization ACRONYM this week launched a $1 million online campaign in five swing states focused on impeachment, and Indivisible and MoveOn.org are among the other organizations also considering running media campaigns.”

‘Trump Has Indicted Himself’: For the First Time Joe Biden Says President ‘Should Be Impeached’

Published

on

Former Vice President Joe Biden for the first time has said President Donald Trump “should be impeached.”

Despite Trump’s attacks against the Democratic frontrunner and his son, which include an elaborate arms-for-political-dirt extortion plot involving Ukraine, Biden until now has refrained from calling for the impeachment of the 45th president.

“Donald Trump has violated his oath of office betrayed this nation, and committed impeachable acts,” Biden told supporters in New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon. “To preserve our Constitution, our democracy, our basic integrity, he should be impeached.”

Biden says it’s “obvious” that Trump has “committed acts to warrant impeachment.”

And he says “impeachment isn’t only about what the president has done. It’s about the threat the president poses to the nation if allowed to remain in office.”

‘Americans Understand’: MSNBC’s Morning Joe Explains Stunning New Surge in Support for Trump Impeachment

Published

on

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough explained why it’s not hard to understand why public support is growing for the impeachment and removal of President Donald Trump.

A new Washington Post-Schar School poll shows Americans support the House impeachment inquiry, by a 58-38 percent margin, and 49 percent say the House should impeach Trump and call for his removal, compared to just 6 percent who back the inquiry but do not want to see the president removed from office.

“Half of Americans support Donald Trump’s removal from office,” Scarborough said, “and I think part of it is, you could read through the Mueller report — and so many Republicans on the Hill didn’t read through it or a lot of Americans didn’t read through it, there’s a lot there to digest. But if you read it, it’s obvious this president is not acting in America’s best interest.”

The “Morning Joe” host said the Ukraine scandal, Trump’s call for China to investigate Joe Biden, and now his baffling decision to abandon the Kurds in Syria, are not nearly as complicated as the Russia investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

“He calls Ukraine, and this is a country recently invaded by Russia, he’s holding up $391 million in defense money,” Scarborough said. “Why? For his campaign’s benefit. So he extorts the leader of a democratic ally, Americans can understand that — misusing the office for his political gain.”

“He makes a call to China, somebody that he has said is our enemy, but he calls China and he’s talking and what does he do?” Scarborough continued. “He not only says it on TV, he says it in a phone call a couple months back, reportedly, and he says, ‘Help my campaign out, I need you to investigate the guy who’s ahead of me by 9 points in the poll.’ Americans can understand that.”

“In a few minutes we’re going to show this guy’s connections with Turkey, his financial connections with Turkey,” he added. “Americans understand that. Why is it that he’s nice to countries where gives him the most money? Russia? Why is it that he bends over backwards to help the Saudis out when, what did he say in the campaign? They like my toys, they’ve given me $150 million.”

“Why is it that the Philippines, everybody else is turning on the Philippines because they have a savage leader there who doesn’t respect any human rights or norms?” Scaborough said. “Why? He’s got hotel property there, and the same thing with Turkey. Why is it every time he gets on the phone call with (Turkey’s Recep Tayyip) Erdoğan he gets off and he makes decisions that Americans understand are not in our best interest.”

Scarborough said the president’s support even seems to be eroding among some of his biggest public boosters.

“Whether you’re on Fox News, ‘Fox & Friends,’ or whether you’re on the ‘700 Club,’ Pat Robertson, or are whether you’re a guy that goes golfing with Donald Trump and you’ve completely forsaken everything that you believed in with John McCain with constitutional norms, you’re Lindsey Graham,” he said, “all of these people understand none of this is in America’s best interest.”
