As Tough 2020 Election Looms Trump Obsessively Ramps Up Attacks – on Obama

Published

on

According to a report at the New York Times, Donald Trump is increasingly ramping up his attacks on former President Barrack Obama as a tough 2020 re-election campaign ramps up and he worries about a challenge by Obama’s former Vice President Joe Biden.

The report notes that during Trump’s South Lawn press availability on Friday, the president immediately began attacking the popular former president within minutes as he deflected questions about his own policies.

“It took all of one minute and nine seconds for President Trump to go after his predecessor on Friday — just one minute and nine seconds to re-engage in a debate that has consumed much of his own time in office over who was the better president,” the Times reports, adding, “Mr. Trump has turned increasingly to Mr. Obama in recent days as a political foil.”

After pointing out that Trump’s outburst, “reflects Mr. Trump’s longstanding fixation with the former president,” the Times suggests, “The president’s focus on Mr. Obama after about two and a half years in office was even more intense during a trip to Japan and South Korea last weekend, when Mr. Trump repeatedly raised the subject of his predecessor without being asked, assailing him on a variety of domestic and foreign policy fronts.”

According to Benjamin J. Rhodes, who served as former deputy national security adviser to Mr. Obama, the current president lashes out at Obama whenever he feels he’s cornered — often making up stories to diminish his predecessor.

“When in a corner, Trump falls back on the only organizing principle he has, which is attacking Obama — and usually lying about it,” Rhodes explained. “I wouldn’t read anything more into it than that.”

Part of Trump’s obsession with Obama likely stems from polling numbers that show Obama was viewed favorably by 63 percent in a Gallup survey last year, compared to Trump’s approval rating of 41 percent.

The Times goes on to note that Trump’s most recent attacks on Obama relate to his dealings with North Korean strongman Kim Jong-un , with the president saying the U.S. would be at war with the country if Obama were still president, and that the former president routinely begged Kim to meet with him — a story Trump repeats that has been thoroughly debunked.

‘This Is a Real Warning’: Ex-Campaign Aide Bluntly States Clinton Didn’t Go Far Enough Criticizing Tulsi Gabbard

On MSNBC Saturday, former Clinton campaign official and director of SiriusXM progressive programming Zerlina Maxwell said that not only did Hillary Clinton do nothing wrong for criticizing Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), she should have if anything gone even harder.

“I think she didn’t go far enough, and we have to decide whether or not we’ll listen to Hillary Clinton, who lived through this in 2016, or whether or not we’re going to do what we did in 2016, is decide that what she’s saying is irrelevant because of how we feel personally about her, and I think that that would be a mistake,” said Maxwell.

“In 2016, anchors literally laughed at Hillary Clinton when she said it was Russia,” Maxwell continued. “Robby Mook went on television and said, ‘It was Russia that was hacking our emails and releasing them on Wikileaks.’ We were laughed at. I would like everyone to listen to us now because I, on the campaign, had that red banner over my email that said, ‘Government hackers are trying to infiltrate your account.’ So, this is a real warning. And I think that we would be smart to listen before it’s too late.”

Trump to Appear at a South Carolina HBCU’s 2020 Candidate Forum on Criminal Justice Reform – With 9 Top Democrats

Trump Polls in the Low Single Digits Among Black Voters

President Donald Trump will appear at a 2020 candidate forum to be held at a historically black college in South Carolina to discuss the future of criminal justice reform. Also confirmed to attend are nine top 2020 Democratic Presidential candidates.

The White House has confirmed Trump accepted the invitation to attend the Benedict College event, which will be held next weekend, October 25-27, according to The State. The surprising acceptance – Trump polls at just 4% or less among Black voters – “was closely-guarded by organizers, who feared the president would either change his mind or alienate those who had already committed to attending or participating.”

There was “initially little expectation he would choose to put himself in a scenario that could quickly turn politically toxic,” The State notes, adding that “Trump could face an embarrassingly low show of support” in the HBCU’s first-ever straw poll.

In August Politico reported on the Trump campaign’s desire to “woo” Black voters, saying “the campaign hopes that if it can shave just a few percentage points off Democrats’ overwhelming support among black voters, it can boost voter turnout in eight or so key states such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — each of which Trump won in 2016 by less than 1 percentage point.” Those attempts so far have been shredded as a “waste of time.”

Benedict College’s website shows nine top Democrats confirmed to attend the “Second Step Presidential Justice Forum,” hosted by the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center, as does this Facebook posting from the college:

Confirmed, per the 20/20 Center are: Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Bernie Sanders, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Cory Booker, Secretary Julian Castro, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and Congressman John Delaney.

“A Quinnipiac University poll released on July 30 showed that 80 percent of African American voters surveyed consider Trump a racist,” Politico added.

It does not appear the candidates will be on stage together at the same time.

Hillary Clinton Drops Bombshell Claim: Russia Grooming 2020 Democrat – a Woman – to Launch 3rd-Party Presidential Run

Published

on

Hillary Clinton just dropped a bombshell claim. The former 2016 Democratic presidential nominee who won the popular vote by close to 3 million more votes than the current president is accusing Russia of grooming a current 2020 Democrat, specifically a woman, to launch a third party run for the White House – to ensure Donald Trump wins re-election.

Russia knows they “they can’t win without a third-party candidate,” Clinton told David Plouffe on his podcast Campaign HQ, as Mediaite reports.

“I think they’ve got their eye somebody who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She’s a favorite of the Russians,” Clinton said. “They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”

The former U.S. Secretary of State and former U.S. Senator said she’s “not making any predictions,” and added, “I don’t know who it’s going to be but I will guarantee you they will have a vigorous third-party challenge in the key states where they most need it.”

Third party candidates have a long history of taking votes away from mainstream candidates, and at the very least reducing their margin of victory. According to History.com, Ross Perot in 1992 took 19% of the vote, giving Bill Clinton a win but with just 43% of the popular vote. And in 2000, some say Ralph Nader’s third-party run stole the election from Al Gore and handed it – with the help of the Supreme Court – to George W. Bush.

In the three states that gave Trump the narrowest of victories, throwing the 2016 Electoral College win to him, third party candidate votes made all the difference – with just 77,000 votes across three states.

For example, in Wisconsin, Gary Johnson won 106,674 votes. Trump beat Clinton by just 22,748 votes. In Pennsylvania, Gary Johnson won 146,715 votes. Trump beat Clinton by just 44,292 votes. And in Michigan, Gary Johnson won 172,136 votes. Trump beat Clinton by just 10,704 votes. Those numbers don’t even include votes for Green Party nominee Jill Stein – who Hillary Clinton, while speaking with Plouffe, labeled a “Russian asset.”
