2020 Road to the White House
Warren Blasts Fox News as ‘Hate-for-Profit Racket’ That Uses ‘Bigotry’ and ‘Racism’ to Refuse Town Hall Offer
“Hate-for-profit works only if there’s profit.”
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is the first to outright refuse Fox News’ offer to host a town hall for her. The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who’s been slowly rising in the polls blasted the right wing cable giant as a “hate-for-profit racket” in announcing a “hard pass” on appearing on their network.
Senators Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar have already held their Fox News town halls. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Mayor Pete Buttigieg have each agreed to a Fox News town hall.
Warren, in an expressive Twitter thread, explained her refusal, saying Fox News “gives a megaphone to racists and conspiracists,” and “designed to turn us against each other, risking life and death consequences, to provide cover for the corruption that’s rotting our government and hollowing out our middle class.”
Warren did not mention this very valid and important reason. “Fox News is not America,” and is not even conservative America. Despite having the largest viewership of all the cable news networks, “Fox News primetime viewers amount to less than 1% of the population.”
Take a look – and feel free to retweet, so maybe Rupert Murdoch will get the message.
Fox News is a hate-for-profit racket that gives a megaphone to racists and conspiracists—it’s designed to turn us against each other, risking life and death consequences, to provide cover for the corruption that’s rotting our government and hollowing out our middle class.

But Fox News is struggling as more and more advertisers pull out of their hate-filled space. A Democratic town hall gives the Fox News sales team a way to tell potential sponsors it’s safe to buy ads on Fox—no harm to their brand or reputation (spoiler: It’s not).

I’m running a campaign to reach all Americans. I take questions from the press and voters everywhere I go. I’ve already held town halls in 17 states and Puerto Rico—including WV, OH, GA, UT, TN, TX, CO, MS & AL.

I’ve done 57 media avails and 131 interviews, taking over 1,100 questions from press just since January. Fox News is welcome to come to my events just like any other outlet. But a Fox News town hall adds money to the hate-for-profit machine. To which I say: hard pass.

The comments on Warren’s Twitter thread appear to be overwhelmingly positive and supportive.
