2020 Road to the White House
Pete Buttigieg Strikes a Nerve by Ripping Trump’s Phony Christian Followers — and the Internet Piles on the Hypocrites
On Sunday, South Bend mayor and 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg ripped into the disconnect of evangelical voters supporting President Donald Trump, a man who has lied, philandered, and in many other ways contradicted the teachings of Jesus Christ.
“It’s something that really frustrates me because the hypocrisy is unbelievable,” Buttigieg told Chuck Todd on MSNBC’s “Meet The Press.” He said that Trump “acts in a way that is not consistent with anything that I hear in scripture or in church,” and needs to learn about “humbling yourself before others.”

WATCH: How does Mayor Pete Buttigieg explain President Trump’s support from the evangelical community? #MTP #IfItsSunday@PeteButtigieg: Scripture talks “about lifting up the least among us, and taking care of strangers, which is another word for immigrants.” pic.twitter.com/sVzOxAJHWz

Buttigieg’s words evidently struck a nerve with Trump supporters, who furiously piled on to attack him:
I liked peter better when he wasnt judging others. C ya.

Gosh, Pete! I thought you were far and above the socialists and were intelligent enough to be a moderate candidate that people might like! I was wrong!

“Lifting up the least among us”…yet, he supports killing innocent children. Fake, Phony, Fraud…,.

That was an interesting well orchestrated Q & A… please do not share scripture for political agendas…it is an insult

However, Buttigieg’s words prompted at least as much support as criticism, with many jumping in to say they agreed with him:
Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!! Why is this logic not applied everyday by my fellow believers????? Pete’s right.

I don’t think when Jesus comes back he’s going to pat right wingers on the back for being against abortion while supporting the other 99% of the Republican party platform that is completely against his teachings. Jesus is not about greed, power, oppression,& hate. #FakeChristians

Every day, the things I see and read about @PeteButtigieg make me like him more and more. Integrity, thoughtfulness before speaking, and just plain decency will win America over. Thanks for being authentic
