“Here is America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is… …High School video of ‘Sandy’ Ocasio-Cortez,” tweeted an anonymous right wing Twitter account that boasted support for the insane “#QAnon” conspiracy theory.
The attempt to take down Ocasio-Cortez, one day before she was sworn in as possibly America’s favorite newest Member of Congress backfired so badly the tweet was deleted and later, so was the entire Twitter account. (Here’s an archived version of the tweet.)
But Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has mastered social media, and was only too happy for the opportunity to strike back – and win more supporters along the way.
On Friday she posted a short video – just 11 seconds – of her dancing into her new office in Congress, snarking back at conservatives determined to embarrass and discredit her, and women in general.
I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous.
Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too! 💃🏽
Have a great weekend everyone 🙂 pic.twitter.com/9y6ALOw4F6
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) January 4, 2019
The video has been viewed 16 million times in just over 24 hours, and “liked” over 700,000 times.
Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has just under 2 million people who follow her Twitter account.
By contrast, the man who would have become Speaker of the House had Democrats not won the majority, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, after 12 years in Congress has just over 250,000 followers – across two accounts.
Ocasio-Cortez has become so popular that she even wildly beats the number of followers Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has across his two accounts, which total about 823,000 followers.
It’s no wonder Republican politicians, voters, strategists, and their henchmen are terrified of Ocasio-Cortez. There’s seemingly nothing they can do to hurt her. And every time they try she turns the tables on them, and becomes even more popular.

Judge Voids Trump’s ‘Religious Freedom’ Rule That Allowed Medical Providers to Use Religion as Shield to Refuse Care
A federal judge has just voided President Donald Trump’s rule that allowed medical providers to cite their personal religious or moral beliefs as a reason to refuse to provide care to certain individuals or to perform certain procedures.
Abortion, contraception, and care of LGBT, especially transgender individuals are among the events that, under the Trump rue, providers could refuse patients.
“U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer in Manhattan declared the rule unconstitutional in a decision stemming from a lawsuit by New York and 22 other mostly Democratic states and municipalities,” The Washington Post reports.
The rule came from the Dept. of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights, headed by Roger Severino, a right wing religious activist. Severino has a background in working for far right religious organizations and has used his considerable power at HHS to work against women and the LGBTQ community.

Massive, Major Victories for Democrats in Virginia and Kentucky as Trump Fails to Deliver Wins for His GOP Candidates
Democrats swept the Virginia State legislature Tuesday night, flipping both the House and Senate to blue for the first time since 1993. It’s just one of several massive, major victories the Democratic Party earned one year out from the 2020 presidential election.
Kentucky’s Tea Party Trump-endorsed Republican governor Matt Bevin lost his job Tuesday night, with Democrat Andy Beshear winning the gubernatorial race. President Donald Trump just 24 hours ago was delivering a rally urging Republicans to vote for Bevin. He lost.
Governor Bevin is refusing to concede, despite all major news outlets reporting he has lost.
How big a Democratic win in Kentucky is this? Trump won the state by 30 points in 2016.
A senior @DNC official responds to the Bevin Kentucky race, telling me, it’s a “big fucking deal..Trump spent big there and lost.”

Trump Boasts Less Than Half the Country Supports Him
President Donald Trump, just a few hours before he will deliver the State of the Union address, took to Twitter to boast that less than half the country supports him.
The President tweeted a screenshot of the Drudge Report, a right wing website that aggregates news stories.
The headline: “Trump Approval 48%.”
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 5, 2019
The 48% number comes from the Republican polling firm Rasmussen.
Meanwhile, the highly-respected Gallup poll puts Trump’s approval at 37%.
By comparison, President Barack Obama was at 50% at this point in his presidency.
President George W. Bush, who was engaged in the Iraq War, was at 60% approval.
President Bill Clinton was at 49%.
President George H.W. Bush had just skyrocketed to an 83% approval rating at this point in his presidency.
President Ronald Reagan’s approval rating at this point was at 35%.
And President Jimmy Carter was at 40%.
