FBI Fires Top Trump Target Peter Strzok

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has fired an agent who became a top target of President Donald Trump, Peter Strzok. Trump had called for Strzok’s firing back in May.

Strzok, who worked at the Bureau for 22 years, was part of the leadership team investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, until it was discovered he had been sending text messages that were viewed as anti-Trump.

The Washington Post reports “Aitan Goelman, Strzok’s lawyer, said FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich ordered the firing on Friday — even though the director of the FBI office that normally handles employee discipline had decided Strzok should face only a demotion and 60-day suspension.”

“Goelman said the move undercuts the FBI’s repeated assurances that Strzok would be afforded the normal disciplinary process,” the Post adds.

Strzok had also worked on the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

The FBI also fired another top official who had worked on top-level cases, who became a target of President Trump: Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

The firing comes just two days after President Trump attacked the FBI on Saturday for its handling of texts sent by McCabe.

Trump has tweeted about Strzok nearly two dozen times.
