President Donald Trump has mandated that undocumented immigrant parents coming across the U.S. border, even those legitimately seeking asylum, have their children taken away from them and housed in separated facilities, and even given to foster parents, as they are arrested and prosecuted for the "crime" of trying to make lives better for their families.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen admitted to Congress that 1475 migrant children have been lost. The federal government has no idea where they are, and thus will not be returning them to their parents. The New York Times notes there are concerns those children may end up in the arms of human traffickers.
Immediately after the First Daughter, who also serves as Senior Advisor to the President, posted her tweet, she was met by Americans outraged over the mishandling of children. As she has with most Trump administration scandals, she has not addressed the crisis of the lost children.
Some responses via Twitter:
Imagine posting this on the day the top news story is 1500 children ripped from their parents who have no idea when they'll see them again. https://t.co/0aKvOe3B8F

Kind of inappropriate, don't you think? Whilst your father's administration is currently allowing innocent children to be treated like animals, you choose to post this?Sr. WH Advisor..DO SOMETHING to stop this. You truly are out of touch @IvankaTrump . https://t.co/B0GupxMNKN

Just think about all of the mother's and their children who can't do this with their children today. Ask your dad to find the children his administration has "misplaced." Get back to us on that ok? https://t.co/NeqWbKViaC

Rubbing it in to the 1500 moms who can't hold OR FIND their babies this morning.

Ivanka, why not send out this picture to all the mothers who are missing their removed children with your " thoughts and prayers."
Since you promote WH actions and policies on this account, using your children in this way would be more appropriate on another platform. https://t.co/xvUyWzW8SB

Interesting tweet considering we have recently learned of children ripped from their mother's arms, taken away, and now lost. 1500 missing children. On your father's watch. And you taunt like the #detachedfromreality #idiotbarbie that you are. #WhereAreTheChildren https://t.co/YQW7SpSmsC

I am very glad no one has ripped a child out of your arms and then given that child to human traffickers. You need to do everything in your power to make sure other mothers do not suffer that fate. https://t.co/3ABpKFBcMx

.@IvankaTrump Probably not the best picture to tweet while thousands of mothers quite literally are having their children ripped from their arms because of your father. Shameful. #WhereAreTheChildren https://t.co/7q2iBBFoBh
