Mike Pompeo, Who Believes in Apocalyptic Holy War, Has Just Been Confirmed as Secretary of State

The U.S. Senate has just confirmed CIA Director Mike Pompeo as President Donald Trump’s Secretary of State. The vote was 57-42.
Pompeo’s nomination was almost sidelined by a technicality earlier this week, but thanks to bipartisanship he was reported out of committee as “favorable.”
A former GOP Congressman, Pompeo has talked about “the Rapture” even as CIA Director, in public settings as well as inside the CIA, and views politics as a “struggle” mankind must endure until the Rapture comes.
“Pompeo’s specific brand of evangelical Christianity, with its insistence on seeing Muslim-Christian relations as an apocalyptic holy war, makes him an unnerving choice for such a senior foreign policy position,” Vox reported last month.
“During his tenure as CIA director, and before that as a member of the House of Representatives, Pompeo has consistently used language that casts the war on terrorism as a cosmic divine battle of good and evil,” Vox added. “He’s referred to Islamic terrorists as destined to ‘continue to press against us until we make sure that we pray and stand and fight and make sure that we know that Jesus Christ is our savior is truly the only solution for our world.'”
Pompeo’s views on same-sex marriage and homosexuality in general are so extreme he not only stated his opposition to marriage equality during his confirmation hearings, but refused to say if he believes sex between two people of the same sex is “perversion.” He had previously characterized it as such.
