President Who Ended DACA Tells Latino Group ‘This Is Our Moment. Go Get DACA’
‘Go Push Those Democrats’ Trump Instructs
President Donald Trump made a rare visit to a minority organization Wednesday afternoon, telling members attending the Latino Coalition’s Legislative Summit, “This is our time, this is our moment. Go get DACA. Go push those Democrats.”
It was a startling remark, given that he is the president who killed DACA, an immigration program created by President Barack Obama, designed to protect undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. when they were children. For a hefty recurring fee DACA allows them to register and obtain papers allowing participants to work legally while paying taxes.
“This is a moment for DACA, for all of us,” Trump told the group of conservative Hispanic business owners. The president characterized Democratic lawmakers as “obstructionists,” who “don’t want to solve the problem.”
“We’re trying to have a DACA victory by the way and Democrats are nowhere to be found, it’s really terrible,” Trump claimed, despite having reversed on his promise to sign any immigration bill placed before him, with no conditions. He soon added four steep conditions opposed by Democrats, many Republicans, and immigration activists. “We’re ready, ready willing and able, but they are no where to be found.”
Trump added, “this is how we’re taking care of our people, taking care of our country.”Â
