Rubio Has Received $3,303,355 from the NRA
Student survivors of the country’s latest mass shooting in Parkland announced the nationwide “March for our Lives†on Sunday, prompting NRA-backed Florida Senator Marco Rubio to worry about negative press.
Several student survivors have gained national attention this week, including Emma Gonzalez for her passionate speech and Cameron Kasky for his powerful op-ed. The two were joined by fellow survivors David Hogg, Alex Wind and Jacqueline Coren on the Sunday morning talk show circuit, where they announced the nationwide “March for our Lives†and their #NeverAgain movement.
Appearing on CBS’ “Face the Nation,†Kasky told host Nancy Cordes that “the adults in office have let us down. Absolutely. And fortunately we have a lot of support from the older generations here, but what we’re trying to do here March for Our Lives is say, the adult politicians have been playing around while my generation has been losing our lives.â€
“If you see how they treat each other in the office, if you see the nasty, dirty things going on with them, it’s – it’s sad to think that that’s what they’re doing while seventeen people are being slaughtered, gunned down only yards away from where we’re sitting right now,†he continued. “And March for Our Lives has support from everybody. And at the end of the day this isn’t a red and blue thing. This isn’t Democrats or Republicans.”
“This is about everybody and how we are begging for our lives and we are getting support,” Kasky said. “But we need to make real change here and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.â€

The video was shared by Florida Senator Marco Rubio, but not in an effort to bring awareness to the upcoming march or their calls for action. It was shared to complain about negative press.
“also hear how media again tries to inflame by falsely claiming I said ‘more guns laws won’t do anything,’†Rubio wrote. “Real quote? ‘more gun laws ALONE.’â€

The New York Times has reported that Rubio has taken $3,303,355 from the NRA.
The March for our Lives is currently scheduled for March 24. The nationwide call to action’s website advises “the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today.â€
Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a “listening session†with high school students this coming Wednesday, the AP also reported Sunday, though the White House did not respond to questions about “what students would be attending the session.â€

DOJ Unveils Proposal That Would Make It Harder for Twitter and Facebook to Block Trump’s Dangerous Posts
The U.S. Dept. of Justice has released a draft of its proposal to change federal law, making it harder – and possibly illegal – for tech companies and social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to remove, delete, or otherwise block or interfere with content it deems dangerous or objectionable.
President Donald Trump for years has falsely claimed tech giants are censoring conservatives and giving preferential treatment to liberals. Recently, Twitter and even Facebook have appended warning or information labels to some of his more dangerous posts, and in rare cases removed them – as they have done for years to other users.
Attorney General Barr has been working to alter Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects websites and their owners from liability over content they host – such as readers’ comments – and allows them to make decisions as to what they remove or block based on what those sites and platforms consider objectionable.
Calling Barr’s draft “a rare, legislative proposal,” The Washington Post reports were it to become law, it would allow the federal government to “police” website owners and tech companies’ actions.
“For years, President Trump and other top Republicans have attacked tech giants including Facebook, Google and Twitter for censoring conservatives online, something the U.S. government now may have the ability to police if the Justice Department’s proposal were to become law.”
For example, yesterday nine of the top 10 posts on Facebook were from Republicans or far right conservatives.
The top-performing link posts by U.S. Facebook pages in the last 24 hours are from:
1. Franklin Graham
2. Ben Shapiro
3. Ben Shapiro
5. Ben Shapiro
7. Dan Bongino
8. Sean Hannity
9. David J. Harris Jr.
10. Donald Trump For President

“The White House,” the Washington Post continues, “has offered little proof for its claims, and tech companies strongly deny them — while Democratic lawmakers contend the administration should focus instead on hate speech, extremism and election disinformation that spreads virally on the Internet.”
Barr to Be Honored for ‘Christlike Behavior’ Today With Award From Right Wing Catholic Group With Strong Ties to Trump
Attorney General Bill Barr will be honored for his “Christlike behavior” at Wednesday’s National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, according to Roman Catholic Sister, author, and anti-death penalty activist Sister Helen Prejean.
The National Catholic Prayer Breakfast will present an award to Attorney General Barr for “Christlike behavior” tomorrow morning. A.G. Barr has ordered the executions of six men with at least one more on the calendar. What is “Christlike” about using discretionary power to kill?
— Sister Helen Prejean (@helenprejean) September 23, 2020
The federal government executed William LeCroy tonight and plans to execute Christopher Vialva on Thursday. Tomorrow, the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast will present an award to the Attorney General and the President will speak to the group. This is a grave scandal.
— Sister Helen Prejean (@helenprejean) September 23, 2020
The National Catholic Prayer Breakfast says Barr will be presented with its Christifideles Laici Award during today’s 16th annual prayer event.
“In Honor and Gratitude for Fidelity to the Church, Exemplary Selfless and Steadfast Service in the Lord’s Vineyard,” are the words inscribed on the award.
The event is being sponsored by several groups, including Alliance Defending Freedom, which appears on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of anti-LGBTQ hate groups.
President Donald Trump is expected to address the group today during its virtual ceremony.
Among the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast’s founders are Pat Cipollone, President Trump’s White House Counsel; former Republican Senator Rick Santorum; and Joseph Cella, President Trump’s Ambassador to Fiji, and a former Trump transition team member who co-founded the right wing activist group Catholic Vote.
Another founder of the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast is Austin Ruse, the president of the anti-LGBTQ hate group Center for Family and Human Rights (C-FAM).
Perhaps the most notable founder of the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast is the group’s president, conservative judicial activist Leonard Leo.
Leo also serves as co-chairman of the Federalist Society, the far right group responsible for promoting the illegitimate belief that the U.S. Constitution should be interpreted by judges according to how the nation’s founders thought.
President Trump, for the first time in history, has effectively farmed out the approval process for federal court judges and even Supreme Court justices he nominates, to the Federalist Society.
The award to Barr is being condemned by notable Catholics, including Sister Prejean, and Father James Martin, a Jesuit priest and editor-at-large at America magazine.
From Archbishop Wester: “We are appalled [the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast] will honor A.G. Barr in light of the fact he just recently began executions of federal prisoners, something that has not been done since 2003. Catholic teaching on capital punishment is clear.” https://t.co/wq34FEBiAF

Trump Calls on FDA to Fast-Track Coronavirus Vaccine Approvals
President Donald Trump on Wednesday publicly called on the Food and Drug Administration to fast-track approvals of coronavirus vaccines after a fourth American drug company’s COVID-19 vaccine entered the final clinical trials stage. The call came just one day after the U.S. saw its 200,000 coronavirus death.
“Big news,” Trump tweeted. “Numerous great companies are seeing fantastic results. @FDA must move quickly!”
Trump then retweeted other tweets praising the Johnson & Johnson drug trial.
Many see Trump’s actions as inappropriate pressure on what is supposed to be an independent, non-partisan federal agency, and some see them as dangerous.
A Washington Post reporter noted the FDA on Tuesday said it was raising the bar on coronavirus vaccine approvals.
WaPo yesterday: “FDA poised to announce tougher standards for a covid-19 vaccine that make it unlikely one will be cleared by Election Day”https://t.co/2FfzadGUhe
Trump today: “FDA must move quickly!” https://t.co/vlt6JdwNjY
— Aaron Blake (@AaronBlake) September 23, 2020
But Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Monday issued a draconian order hamstringing the FDA and requiring all moves to be approved by him.
Here’s former Obama Under Secretary of State Richard Stengel, issuing a warning:
The meaning of this ‘power grab’ is not murky but clear. At Trump’s behest, Azar will over-rule FDA scientists to approve emergency use of a vaccine before the election even if it’s unsafe, risking even more lives for one goal: Trump’s re-election. #VOTE https://t.co/4ij6DmrYqm
