Top GOP House Chairman Who Led Charge to Prosecute Hillary Clinton Will Retire
‘There Is a Time to Come and a Time to Go’ Powerful Congressman Says
U.S. Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) who heads the powerful House Oversight Committee has just announced he will be retiring at the end of his term. The four-term South Carolina Congressman made a name for himself when he chaired the United States House Select Committee on Benghazi from 2014 to 2016. That committee was designed to derail Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential aspirations, according to one Republican Congressman.
Gowdy issued a statement early Wednesday afternoon, saying he no longer enjoys politics and will be returning to his prior life in the justice system. Gowdy served as a U.S. Attorney for South Carolina from 1994 to 2000.
There is a time to come and a time to go. This is the right time, for me, to leave politics and return to the justice system. Full statement here → pic.twitter.com/7I8AApqvs1

In 2016 Rep. Gowdy called for Hillary Clinton to be criminally prosecuted.
Gowdy’s resignation is among the most-high profile to date. Dozens of Republicans have announced they will not seek re-election, including eight other House chairpersons.
