SC Sheriff Spokesperson on Tragic Shooting: ‘No Terrorism’ Because All Involved Were White
‘There’s No Racial Undertones There, There’s No Terrorism Involved’
During a press conference late Wednesday afternoon a South Carolina sheriff’s spokesperson discussing the details of a school shooting explained to reporters that since all the victims and the shooter were white there was no terrorism involved.
After shooting and killing his 47-year old father, a 15-year old gunman traveled to an elementary school near his house and opened fire with a handgun on two students and a teacher. A firefighter who happened to be at the school prevented the teen from entering.
Relationship between all four shot is unknown. Not clear if teacher was target. Handgun used. Students shot in leg and foot. #Townville

“Right now we know two of the students were both male, white males. The teacher was a white female. The shooter is a juvenile, he’s a white male,” Capt. Garland Major told reporters. “There’s no racial undertones there, there’s no terrorism involved.”

It’s unclear why Major would imply that white people can’t be terrorists or that “racial undertones” are a prerequisite for acts of terrorism. It’s also unclear how law enforcement would be certain of the shooter’s motives or intent so early in the investigation.
NCRM contacted Capt. Major but he did not immediately respond. This story will be updated when he does.
