‘Die Fag’ Painted On Newlywed Couple’s Car (Video)
A recently married North Carolina man finds an anti-gay threatening slur spray painted on the side of his Jeep.
Andrew Windham-Harris left work early Saturday morning to find an offensive and threatening message on the side of his Jeep. An anti-gay criminal had spray painted “Die Fag” on the passenger side of the car, and also keyed the same message into the paint.
“It about tore my heart out,” Windham-Harris said, noting no other car in the parking lot of the restaurant had been vandalized.
Fortunately, local police were supportive and are investigating.
“They were extremely courteous, they were remorseful,” Windham-Harris told WLOS’ Kimberly King. “He personally felt bad about it, and was flabbergasted that this had happened in Haywood County.”
Andrew Windham-Harris’ landlord called it “a senseless crime,” and “a hate crime.”
The damage to the car will cost about $500 to fix, but the emotional effects won’t be as easy to repair. Windham-Harris’ husband is fearful of another attack.
But Windham-Harris says he is not going to let this crime sideline him.
“This has happened but I’m not going to let it back me down, or have me living in fear,” Windham-Harris said. “I’m going to go on living my life, my new husband, and my house. And we’re going to keep having the American dream work for us.”
