Small Ohio Town Orders Resident To Dismantle Zombie Jesus Nativity Scene (Video)
After a few complaints a small Ohio town found a way to order one resident to dismantle his Zombie Jesus nativity scene – is this a violation of his rights?
Jasen Dixon just wanted to celebrate the holidays with a nativity scene in his front yard. But Dixon wanted something a bit different, and so he built a Zombie Jesus nativity scene.Â
Dixon says overall, most people who see it are pleased.Â
“Actually, you’ll see them look over and just turn the other way and hit the gas. Other than that, everything’s positive. Thumbs up, freedom of expression.”
But Sycamore Township says it received two anonymous complaints, and claims the structure violates local zoning laws. Dixon disagrees, and says next year he’ll build an even bigger one.
Local resident Joe Blomquist likes it too.
“There’s no reason to be upset with it. He decorates for a local haunted house. It looks fantastic. I am of the belief that if you take offense to something that’s done in good fun that doesn’t actually hurt anyone, then the problem is you.”
“I’m not into the devil or anything like that,” Dixon says in a video on his new crowdfunding page he started to help defer the costs of the town’s threatened $1000 fine. He believes he’s exercising his freedom of religion, and promises next year’s will be “badass.”
