Search and Rescue Suspended for Three Missing Marines
Australia to Assist with Recovery Efforts
The United States has suspended its search for three missing Marines after an MV-22 Osprey “entered the water†off of Australia’s east coast.
The transition from search and rescue to recovery “comes after teams led continuous sustained search efforts supported by aircraft and ships,†the United States Marine Corps released in a statement.

The unit was in Australia as a part of a regularly scheduled deployment, and 23 of the 26 personnel were rescued following what the Corps described as a “mishap.†The Australian government said Sunday that it will lend its armed forces to assist in U.S. recovery operations. Â
“Recovery and salvage operations can take several months to complete,†the Marine Corps’ statement read, “but can be extended based on several environmental factors.â€
Donald Trump was briefed early yesterday but has released no public statement at this time.
