Live Debate Tweets From a GOP Pollster Show Just How Well Clinton Did – and How Awful Trump Was
Frank Luntz Tweets Responses From Undecided Pennsylvania Voters
Frank Luntz Monday night tweeted responses from his group of 20 voters who sat with him watching the first Clinton-Trump presidential debate. Each had a hand-held device to record their responses and reactions to each candidate’s comments:
Tonite, my focus group of undecided Penn. voters will be scoring the candidates’ responses
I’ll be tweeting results all night. #Debates2016 pic.twitter.com/MBznPBPUea

It didn’t go well for Donald Trump. In fact, according to these 20 voters, it looks like it went very poorly for the GOP nominee.
All the networks tonight will have pundits to analyze the debates.
But only @CBSNews will have actual voters to pick winners. #Debates2016 pic.twitter.com/bNAAzmBeOv

One hour into the debate, Luntz, who is frequently on Fox News and was live on CBS News during the debate, tweeted this:
So far, 17 people in my group say Hillary is winning; 3 say Trump.
Tax question weakened him, birther question destroyed him. #DebateNight

Trump started out well. 14 minutes into the debate, Luntz tweeted Trump was winning:
Trump is doing better with undecideds than even with Trump-leaners.
He is actually winning. #DebateNight pic.twitter.com/MU1TyGImZf
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
And then, as the night went on, his refusal to release his taxes hurt him:
Even Trump-leaners agree with Hillary. They want to see his taxes. #DebateNight pic.twitter.com/HJv2s2yTnf
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
And then this:
Voters across the aisle agree with the racial problems that Hillary laid out, and what must be done to fix them. #DebateNight pic.twitter.com/sJHfNNnhsX
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
Which led to Luntz conceding Hillary was winning, and saying Trump actually doesn’t know how to be a closer:Â
Trump knows how to setup a solid point, but can’t close it with a convincing solution. #DebateNight

Remember how Trump proclaimed, “I am the law and order candidate”? And his birther claims? And his claims he’ll do better fighting ISIS? Clinton beat Trump on his own issues:
Hillary’s highest score tonight (93) comes when she promotes her plans for enforcing the law.#DebateNight pic.twitter.com/cBqcHcXasf

Hillary’s response to the birther issue scored better with Trump-leaners than Donald Trump’s answer to the birther issue.#DebateNight pic.twitter.com/hB5FMnbChq
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
Hillary’s plan to fight ISIS scored higher with Trump-leaners than even with her own HRC-leaners.#DebateNight pic.twitter.com/N7NohqkTPl
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
Again, Luntz compliments Clinton:
Trump is talking about problems… Hillary is talking about solutions.
Voters always want to hear solutions. #DebateNight
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
More Trump self-inflicted damage:
Trump is tanking when trying to explain why he questioned Obama’s birthplace for so long.#DebateNight pic.twitter.com/WRXVShI1AC
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
Trump could be crushing Hillary right now if he wasn’t so thin-skinned.#DebateNight
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
Trump lost on his “stamina” attacks:
Trump is playing a losing game trying to explain Hillary’s lack stamina/looks (?)#DebateNight pic.twitter.com/b9zsVZn7mq
— Frank Luntz (@FrankLuntz) September 27, 2016
And when it was all over:
Who won tonite’s debate?
In my focus group, 6 people said Trump and 16 said Clinton. #DebateNightYou can say here: https://t.co/rFZYklEsdr

Without a doubt, Hillary killed it.
