FBI, Feds Investigating Aaron Schock
The FBI and federal prosecutors are investigating Rep. Aaron Schock, who resigned in disgrace this week amid growing financial questions.
After six weeks of increasingly embarrassing revelations about his handling of campaign and congressional finances, Republican Rep. Aaron Schock resigned this week. Any congressional ethics investigations into the Illinois Congressman’s finances will cease upon his last day in office, March 31, but federal prosecutors and the FBI have begun investigations.
“The FBI and the federal prosecutors in Illinois are investigating whether Rep. Aaron Schock broke the law in accounting for campaign expenses, according to people familiar with the matter,” CNN reports today. “The FBI has now begun delivering subpoenas seeking testimony before a grand jury in Springfield, Ill.”

ABC News notes that “Schock was already under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly soliciting contributions for an independent expenditure-only political committee in excess of $5,000 per donor, in violation of federal law, House rules and standards of conduct.”
Among the questions for federal officials is the difference between his reported mileage, for which he was reimbursed, and the number of miles on his car when he traded it in. That difference is about 90,000. The Congressman says he has reimbursed the federal government for all the mileage he expensed during his years in office. Also at issue is the possible misuse of campaign funds for personal trips.
What started the investigations? Schock’s Downton Abbey-esque office makeover.
