This photo, taken by professional photographer Meryl Schenker, of 56-year old Larry Duncan and 48-year old Randy Shepherd, hands raised as they apply to receive their marriage license, became the icon image of marriage equality in Washington.
Meryl Schenker is an award-winning independent photojournalist and portrait specialist in Seattle.
Via Twitter, she notes the couple, Duncan and Shepherd, “have lived here for 7 yrs. Randy is a computer programer. Larry a retired psychology nurse,” and “are from Texas. Moved here because it’s more gay friendly..”
