DeSantis Blasted for Snubbing Local GOP With New York Fundraiser: Report
Ron DeSantis offended a New York Republican official by failing to coordinate a local fundraiser.
Lawrence Garvey, who heads the Rockland County GOP, complained to Politico that the DeSantis campaign neglected to reach out before sending out a flier to “major business leaders” for a $6,600-per-person fundraiser scheduled for June 29 at the Crowne Plaza in Suffern.
“The Republican Party is a big tent and we’re always honored to have national figures come to Rockland County,” Garvey said. “At the same time there’s courtesies and protocols involved. While we understand communication can sometimes be difficult, we nevertheless think that communication is necessary,.”
Garvey added that he was “disappointed” the campaign hasn’t apologized for the slight, and the campaign didn’t respond to Politico’s requests for comment, but a source said the event was being moved to a more private venue because some Democratic groups have threatened to protest outside.
