Anti-Gay GOP Congressman Appointed To Ensign’s Senate Seat
An anti-gay GOP Congressman, Rep. Dean Heller, has been appointed to the remainder of embattled and corrupt GOP Senator John Ensign’s term, by GOP Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval. Ensign, who resigned effective May 3, has been under federal investigation and was named one of the 15 Most Corrupt Members of Congress in 2009.
On his 2006 campaign website, Heller stated he supports “traditional marriage,” and voted no on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation. Heller has voted to cut all funding for Planned Parenthood, voted against subsidizing the development of renewable energy, voted against healthcare reform and voted to repeal it, voted to stop federal funding of National Public Radio, and overall, votes with the GOP 89% of the time.
Heller, who was the Nevada Secretary of State for 12 years, is married, has four children, and is listed as a Mormon. He will need to run for the seat again in 2012.
