Top Senate Democrat: Flynn Guilty Plea Shows He Was Negotiating With Russia Against US Policy and Interests
‘Stunning Revelation’
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has released a strong statement on Friday’s bombshell news that former Trump National Security Advisor Mike Flynn has now pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his connections with Russia. Flynn was also a top Trump campaign advisor and surrogate most famous for chanting “lock her up” at the Republican National Convention.
“Michael Flynn’s guilty plea is about more than just lying to the FBI. What he lied about and when he did it are of even greater significance,” Senator Feinstein’s statement begins.Â
“This shows a Trump associate negotiating with the Russians against U.S. policy and interests before Donald Trump took office and after it was announced that Russia had interfered in our election.”
Feinstein, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, goes on to call it a “stunning revelation,” and says it “could be a violation of the Logan Act, which forbids U.S. citizens from negotiating with a foreign power.”
“It’s critical that we determine whether Flynn spoke with the Russians on his own initiative and who knew of and approved of his his actions.”
One of the most powerful Democrats on Capitol Hill, Feinstein also warns against “interference” in the case – clearly a shot across the bow at the White House.
