Maggie, Now You’ll Have To Buy Your Own Damned Coffee
Tim Horton’s Does The Right Thing
The Internet this morning was abuzz with the story that the Canadian coffee and donut empire Tim Horton’s was sponsoring Maggie Gallagher’s National Organization for Marriage. Specifically, one Tim Horton’s franchisee in Rhode Island was co-sponsoring a NOM-sponsored anti-gay marriage rally in Providence.
After the blogosphere went wild, and a Change.org petition hit 1630 signatures in the space of a few hours, Tim Horton’s issued a statement that read, in part,
“For 45 years, Tim Hortons and its store owners have practiced a philosophy of giving back to the communities in which we operate. As a company, our primary focus is on helping children and supporting fundraising events for non-profit organizations and registered charities.
For this reason, Tim Hortons has not sponsored those representing religious groups, political affiliates or lobby groups.
It has come to our attention that the Rhode Island event organizer and purpose of the event fall outside of our sponsorship guidelines. As such, Tim Hortons can not provide support at the event.”
Proof that locally or internationally, the franchise of hate mongering Maggie Gallagher is brewing up these days is no one’s cup of tea.
As usual, Chris Geidner takes a closer look and delivers sage advice.
