FBI Director’s Letter Likely Won’t Radically Change Election Just-Released Poll Finds
‘There Is Not Yet Evidence That the Revelations Have Drastically Altered the Contours of the Election’
Friday’s supposed “bombshell” letter from FBI Director James Comey has not “radically changed” the election, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll taken Saturday and Sunday. Hillary Clinton still leads Donald Trump, 46-43 in a head-to-head matchup, and 42-39 in a four-way race including third-party candidates. A previous poll gave Clinton a 3 point lead against Trump in a two-way race, and a five point lead when third-party candidates were included.
“Put simply, there is not yet evidence that the revelations have drastically altered the contours of the election,” Politico reports.Â
Almost 4 in 10 voters, 39 percent, say the FBI Director’s letter has no bearing on their vote, while 33 percent said it made them more likely to vote against her.Â
“But most of those voters are already aligned against Clinton. Nearly two-thirds of Trump voters, 66 percent, said it makes them much less likely to vote against Clinton,” Politico reports.
And among the few remaining undecided voters, 42 percent said the letter made it more likely they would not vote for Clinton, but 41 percent said it made no difference.
That said, charges that Director Comey’s actions may have violated federal law are still relevant.
