‘What Are They Thinking?’: Biden Blasts House GOP Fleeing Town Without Ukraine Funding

A clearly angered President Joe Biden on Friday expressed outrage at House Republicans for taking off for a nearly two-week vacation without passing legislation to fun Ukraine, and just ahead of a scheduled federal funding deadline of their own choosing that could result in a government shutdown.

House Republicans left Thursday afternoon, ahead of schedule, without passing legislation to provide critical military aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, or humanitarian aid to Gaza. They also left without passing legislation to help protect the southern border and address immigration. ICE now faces a $700 million budget shortfall and may be forced to release immigrants into the U.S. as a result.

Asked by a reporter if there is anything he can do to get ammunition to Ukraine without congressional approval, President Biden said, “No, but it’s about time they step up, don’t you think? Instead of going on a two-week vacation?”

“Two weeks, they’re walking away,” the President, raising his voice, declared.

“Two weeks! What are they thinking? My God!” Biden continued, angrily.

“This is bizarre, and it’s just reinforcing all the concern and, almost, I won’t say panic, but real concern about the United States being a reliable ally. This is outrageous.”
